 I do have confidence the Revolution will actually come out though.
I'd be extremely surprised if they allow US Revolution owners to download the Japanese games (Famicom Wars, etc.).
Indeed. Odds of that happening are pretty damn lousy.

Okay, now I know where all this hoopla comes from. In the latest Famitsu, they talk about the backwards compatibility of the Revolution and -speculate- on what games will be playable on it. Scans and info at http://www.cubed3.com/viewnews.php?storyid=3958. There is no list in the magazine as the site implies though. 221 titles is the only the total number of titles Nintendo has published themselves, and that includes Gamecube games... which will probably not be free downloads.

Less hype folks, less hype... hype is bad, mm'kay?

EDIT: Also, Famitsu doesn't say any of the games will be free...

I'm surprised to see Sin & Punishment and Dezaemon 3D.
Heh, like UFO, I just bought S&P too, but hey, it's nice to have something physical and more or less permanent...

Even with the Revolution having legit emulation of older games, it's still way much better to own and play on the hardware it originally was designed for.

Still, it may give Earthbound a new chance to shine. I'm pretty sure alot of people who played Super Smash Bros were wondering where the hell Ness came from.

Surprising that no one's getting a hard-on over F-Zero 2 and Zelda...

Wow...Satellaview. Wonder if Zelda will be finished. Wonder if it'll be hard to download from Japan w/ a Japanese Revolution. :)

It also lists franchises like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark, which are owned by Microsoft as part of their Rare contract terms. In short the list is not only unofficial, it's impossible.

Well, I swallowed that one up like a rabid goldfish, I admit it, but even if it's just Nintendo's first-party NES stuff that's free I'll be more than happy.

The list is not official, it's based on a post a Famitsu forum member posted which they then printed as a possible lineup. The IGN article is poorly written IMHO since it calls the list "official" but then the writer contradicts himself by pointing out it's just a fan made list. For cryin' out loud...

http://cube.ign.com/articles/622/622722p1.html

June 6, 2005 - The latest issue of Famitsu Magazine in Japan reveals that all of Nintendo's first party-published NES, S-NES, and Nintendo 64 classics will be available for download on Revolution.

The publication offers no specifics on games, but an overzealous message board poster calling himself 'myahon' put together a preliminary list of some 214 possibilities based on their first party status.

oh from IGN, yes lets trust them.

The latest news I read...

http://ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=50759
Iwata says, "Though the baseless rumor flows in the internet that the virtual console download service is free,
it is not scheduled to deliver it in free.
maybe download it (old games) as a privilege when consumers buy a new game,
maybe download it by consistent of the campaign at limited time,
variety methods will be used.
Using the properties in the past, I want to take shape that the profit is paid to Nintendo to the end. "

Thank you Iwata, you clueless, clueless man. Yes, I'm sure people will be buying as many new games as possible just to play old games they should (like me) still own on their NES, SNES, ect. Good move there, Satoru.

Satoru Iwata, forcing you to pay to download games you should still own (unless your mom sold your Super Nintendo without your knowledge at garage sale like FatCobra). Truly this man...*swoons in admiration* has as he said at GDC....the "HEART OF A GAMER!"

Oh well, at least we get free wifi Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.

I'm not paying money so I can download ROMS. Emulation is so fake. Still, wifi Mario Kart sounds like it will kick some ass.

Let's not go ripping on IGN. OK, so they made a mistake here, big effin' deal! It's not as if there are no errors in the Xenocide files. And they have the most comprehensive console game release date lists anywhere on the net.

At any rate, I'm most excited about the new Revolution games; you can pick up old Nintendo consoles for VERY cheap-plenty of people already own them, like Dylan1CC.

I'm thinking more and more that I'd just be better off getting an XBOX (I have absolutely NO interest in the 360, and Panzer Dragoon Orta is better then 90% of the shmups I've played) and waiting for the Revolution next year, since it will be able to play Cube games. Plus, I have little doubt that once again, Nintendo's new console will be the cheapest of the 3.

Uhhh... There was a Kirby's Air Ride for N64?

Also, lack of NES Bionic Commando makes me very angry.

I would still argue that the biggest problem with this service is the fact that, as Dylan pointed out, a lot of the people interested in games for older Nintendo systems already own those systems and games.

And depending on how much downloading all this may cost, it may indeed end up being cheaper to just buy the old Nintendo games and consoles you want.

Seriously, the N64 makes the Dreamcast look expensive, the SNES is pretty cheap-the only marginally expensive one in the group is the NES, or a Famicom, if you prefer that.

I'll be getting a Revolution for it's new games, AND for the fact that it's backwards compatible with the Cube.
