Biohazard 5 in my house....
L4D's very good, but the co-op can't be compared between genres. I think leaving out co-op in RE5 would have been a bad move. As far as I know, you can play as little or as much as you want of RE5 in co-op, just disconnect after beating a chapter or whatever.
I don't intend on buying this though. L4D has flaws too, though. It gets repetitive, and fast.

Every mode doesn't have to be co-op. Mercs sounds great for co-op and maybe those other DLC modes they're holding back. It sounds like they felt they had to do it for story mode, but entirely single player action games can still do really well when there's nice stuff to look at (Bioshock). That, and there's already enough chatter in story mode.Elixir wrote:I think leaving out co-op in RE5 would have been a bad move.

the AI is not bad and I played the game all the way through Co-op and have have no idea who the other folks were. I just set it so it was "free join" and when the game linked me up it did and some last a chapter, some lasted a few chapters...
I've beat it twice and one was on verteran along with alot of single chapter plays. The co-op works and does not required long hours of play.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
I cleared veteran now so I can try out professional with you Rob. though I should probably upgrade my weapons a bit and get the handcannon(heh, thinking about getting unlimited only for that gun
) Unlimited ammo also keeps one more slot open in the inventory, can carry more guns. I dont really like the whole upgrading system in the end, especially because the money isnt even balanced on the levels. I should probably repeat that temple level with like 50000 worth of treasure.

Awesome, I still need to finish chapters 5-6 of vet, so it'll take me a few days before I'm ready. Right now I just have unlimited S&W M29. Really like the shotgun & rifle combo so I'll have to work towards one of those. I only have enough pts. to unlock one more unlimited weapon for now. Tough choice.Zaarock wrote:I cleared veteran now so I can try out professional with you Rob. though I should probably upgrade my weapons a bit and get the handcannon(heh, thinking about getting unlimited only for that gun) Unlimited ammo also keeps one more slot open in the inventory, can carry more guns. The resale value on the items really sucks. I think I remember making decent money just selling extra ammo in 4, and nless they've been upgraded a lot, guns aren't even worth anything.
Got my first SS ranks on mercenaries coop now, fun times. I got a 140 combo and >200000 score on public assembly as well.
I dont get how some people get 600000 there though, ridiculous. I'm guessing theyre setting proximity mines on huge piles of infected with combo bonus on, but that still doesnt seem like it would be enough, theres only 3 combo bonuses.

I like this game. Too many instant deaths though. I noticed you always have to be on the ball knowing what your inventory is. Too many times I died on a bit because I thought I was out of ammo only to have a rocket launcher and some grenade launchers

Err, the only ones I've seen are the reaper charge attack , chainsaw charge attack and action sequences, and afaik the only enemy that just makes you go into dying phase in one hit (normal-veteran) is the executioner on one of the first levels.neorichieb1971 wrote:Too many instant deaths though.
I never really got confused with the inventory, its so small that its hard to forget whats there, especially since ammo is taking one slot per weapon.
Got some more SS ranks in mercenaries now I think, only now learned that you should reload through the menu(x to combine ammo, x on weapon and b to exit) as it makes you skip reload time, obv especially useful when doing movements like jumping or climbing ladders.
Also, turns out the really high scores on public assembly were from people constantly meleeing(shooting leg, melee from behind, repeat) so they essentially never ran out of time. I found a very nice thing to do with STARS Wesker, headshot an infected with the samurai edge and they will do a 180 and you can melee them from behind very easily, making you gain 5 seconds and save one bullet if youre close range.

Ach. I'll be waiting a long while on this one, at which time there probably won't be anybody to play coop with, or maybe the transmission lines will have frozen by then.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Zero punctuation review. Spoils almost nothing but is much fun .

Side note, it's shameful nobody mentioned the inventory at all (that a quick search will uncover, that is) until Rob; that along with the terrible AI seems to be the major stinker. What a massive step backwards. I'd have rather dealt with the briefcase in real time if they wanted to introduce some "realism."
Shout out to my girl, tri-vag hooker!

spoilers.
Well maybe i'm finding all the instant deaths. I found one on the ship boss when I just went for a happy walk between the 2 guns and the thing jumped out of the water and ate me whole.
Or perhaps those large black insects which put every one of their 8 arms into your body making an instant death.
Or perhaps the clam head MF who I still don't know how to kill consistently who just swallows you whole.
I even got eaten by a crocodile. I thought I would just shoot it with shotgun but it turned out not to be a deterrent and he ate me.
I like being eaten

As for the inventory, if your playing single player it is much more of a nightmare. If you give sheva ammo she will waste most of it, if you give her just a pistol you end up having too much weaponry yourself to juggle.
Watch in awe as Sheva with rounds of ammo with top class weaponry stands there wondering what to do in rogue mode whilst you get the living shit fucked out of you. Or watch her shoot you in the back for 20 seconds in a narrow corridor.. This game is retarded in 1p mode. Granted in co-op mode, you can have someone sniping, while you take out the goones coming on foot. Try that shit in 1p mode. You have rocket launchers on 3 balconies with hardly any place to hide, about 8 guys running at you. Before you know it your almost surrounded, out of ammo (trying to use inventory whilst these guys sometimes stare at you for a while) and then you have the rocket launcher guys.
You know how I beat the level. I just try really hard, use foresight like planting mines on the ground in narrow corridors and run the fuck down there so the big goones follow me. Its the only way.

Spoilers
I regret anticipating this game so much because I spoiled a big part of the game to myself. Got up to the point against the crocodiles and felt like I'd seen all of it before in trailers. DAMN you CAPCOM. Next time I should avoid all trailers. Oh and freakin' Sheva babysits you too much. Is there a way to get rid of her?

I will try to explain:
-in the place where you find the chicken, climb the ladder up->1st bonus object
-in the middle of the map in the bus->2nd b/o
-in south of the map stand in front of the house use the ladder,in the corner right ->3rd b/o
-*edit*now let fall through the hole in the left corner you will find he forth right near the door!!!

Come on, the mechanics are only "superficially" the same as RE4. They're way better done & tweaked in RE5.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Ever played RE4?Skykid wrote:Apologies for the thread resurrection -

The whole shoot n' punch combat is more fluid in RE5, especially mercs is more fun to play than RE4 mercs.

Of course I've played Resi 4 - one of the best games this decade.
I'm not sure if the overall experience will match that game in the end, but I'm absolutely loving 5 so far.
If this is how the series is planning to proceed I'm very happy. Where are we going on holiday next Capcom?

Sounds like the only way to get some of the good old RE vibes out of this is to play on hardest difficulty with CPU Sheva. Because with two decent human players co-op, RE5 is just too damn easy and straight forward, I think we got stuck only twice; the bat-thing (got it with the FINAL bullet of any weapon we had, was that scripted or luck?) and didn't know how to handle Wesker in the end (I was just trying to push the rock quickly into the lava with Chris and then somehow evade Wesker.. what a stupid scene).
RE5 is a great fps, but I'm thirsty for survival horror again. Anything coming up?

Sorry.. I have a habit of calling these fps, especially when the camera zooms very near the player character when aiming and shooting. What's the proper genre name then, which includes fps and third person shooters?Skykid wrote:It's not an fps though.Shocky wrote: RE5 is a great fps, but I'm thirsty for survival horror again. Yeah, I have Siren: Blood Curse, but haven't had time to play it properly. It's definitely worthwhile, but I felt it was even too scripted and claustrophobic, I mean that there was no room for creative problem solving, and so far (after completing about a third of the game) it seems very.. basic. Evil "zombies" are after me, but that's it. The presentation and situations are nice though.
And today I heard that Junji Ito is involved in this Siren thing somehow, if that's the case, then this Siren thing might get veery weird and twisted eventually... If not, Ito should be given a proper chance to design the horror game ever.

Nah, apparently the first Siren (PS2) is somewhat inspired from "Village of the Siren"; no direct involvement AFAIK.Shocky wrote:And today I heard that Junji Ito is involved in this Siren thing somehow, if that's the case, then this Siren thing might get veery weird and twisted eventually... I still like the original PS2 title better than this "re-envisioning", it's still a good game though and while I agree the problem solving is on the scripted side, the story & presentation gets better and better.
Just don't miss out on important archives...
