Seriously, I could fall asleep playing this.Plastic wrote:Looks like a horribly sluggish R-Type rip-off.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I thought that's where I grabbed this from initially. I agree with what was said above, get rid of the inertia.Pixel_Outlaw wrote:http://www.shmup-dev.com/forum/index.ph ... 498.0.htmllandshark wrote:Wasn't this one of the entries for one of the early shmup-dev.com comps?
I've never seen it done right in a shmup - it always makes things worse.

SiKrAiKeN: While I don't think everyone here -is- a Ninja Turtle, I DO believe everyone here has the potential to be a Ninja Turtle. No doubt.

BTW there's a sequel called...wait for it...Prototype 2.
IMO it's much better than original. There's no shield, there are multiple ships with various abilities, more levels, you have r-type like force pod, which you can also use as a bomb, and generally it feels much more like finished game.

I was being facetious, you all know that right?
On a serious note- never did understand 'intertia' in a shmup. Kinda like the 'heft' in Killzone 2 (demo at least for sure). Just ends up feeling like slugish controls. (save for something like Solar Jetman and Subterrania)

Some people actually prefer controls with inertia (the guy who made Go Beryllium is one of them, that's why his games have option to switch it on and off), but most of the time it's just misguided attempt at realism. And as for Killzone, FPS have inertia so things like being pushed away by explosions and sliding down slopes are possible.Battlesmurf wrote:On a serious note- never did understand 'intertia' in a shmup.
