Street Fighter IV Region Encoding

Post by tommyb »

Is the American SF IV region locked?

I have a Japanese 360 and just wanted to know if I can just go to Gamestop and buy the game.

Nope. US works on J360. (at least that's what I've seen people post on here and other forums)

I have tested a US copy of Street Fighter IV on my JP 360 and everything works fine. All copys seem to be region free, so play on!

The game discs are identical for every region. The save files are universal too. Probably the neatest outcome of this is that you can play with the original boss names by simply changing the language in the 360 system settings. I like my dictators named Vega, damn it. :D

Just got done playing SF IV for a few hours.
It's great, I only wish you didn't have to unlock characters. I really have no interest in playing arcade mode.

I've always thought the region encoding thing is big BS. What's the damn point of preventing potential customers from buying your game?

Over the years the various companies have come up with a few different excuses as to why they do this - market control, content creator wishes, licenses for different countries being owned by different companies, piracy control, etc. Recently the piracy prevention one seems to be the most common, despite the fact that it makes the least sense.
