Metal Slug (GBA) video out

Post by UnscathedFlyingObject »

It seems to be shaping up nicely. I won't mind the scaled down graphics if they keep the game going at a smooth frame rate.

Whatcha think?

Nice, but I've already bought two different home version of MS 1... I doubt I'll buy a third, no matter how good it is. Unless they add new levels... then I'll buy it.

Ooo, sexy!

I was eying the Metal Slug copy UFO had in his sale thread for a while now, I was surprised it remained there so long, although checking now I guess someone bought it. I'm strapped for cash, so this GBA port might be just up my alley.

So this isn't Metal Slug Advance but a port of MS 1? Groovey. :)

Yup. I just hope they don't do something stupid and give the player a 'break' between each level like in MSA. Keep it true to the original, please!

Question
In MSA, after each level, you could save and your health refilled. I don't want any of that nonsense, or any saves at all besides high scores.

After looking at the 3 screen-shots of actual play... it appears that the backgrounds look very faithful (for instance, I noticed the direction signs in stage 2 were present [which only appear in the MVS and AES cart versions])... however, the character sprites look.. well... cel-shaded.. sort of. They don't have the traditional gritty detail look (even MSA possessed said graphic style) to them... but instead, sport some really odd varying thickness/colour outlines as well as what almost look like smeared graphics (especially on the faces... look at the stage 3 image of Marco balancing on the edge of the cliff).

It also appears that SNK-P have yet to confirm the inclusion of a 2-player option.

Kiken, I think those are AES/MVS screenshots run through some kind of a filter. I don't think gamespot has actual screenshots of the GBA version yet.

Good point. That could very well be the case.

Yeah, the resloution of those screens doesn't look like GBA. Definatly check out the video. It's very impressive IMO.

I just thought of something... is the GCN GB player multi-regional? (I've never imported GBA games but I might with this.)

Okay, thanks. I knew that a normal GBA didn't have regions but I thought because it was on a console it might be different.

Haha, those are screenshots of Metal Slug emulated with edge enhancement. Those GameSpot guys are so clever.

I tried a few imports on my GB Player and they all work great. In fact, I even used it to test and confirm the single cartridge multiplayer in the Famicom Mini Twinbee.
