Where you got that info from? Two years? What did they do all the time?
I liked the new look, it was okay for me. But no doubt, the music and sfx disappointed me a lot. I think all this together would give the game a fresh impression. Just like this it feels like a half-done product to me.

IREM didn't supply them with any source code. They had to completely reverse-engineer the arcade ROMs.

LoL, can hardly believe it. Original (good) games take two year to develop. But well, if they have this time, why don't they have time to update BGM and SFX?
Sure, some may like the original music, but it's simply not appealing for the main stream anymore.
ex.machina have you played r-type dimensions? I'm just curious becuase atleast you give valid reasons to warrant not paying 1200. As opposed to other people who want it to be 800 because other games are and that its too expensive. Bunch of babies on xbox.
I think its worth the 1200. Sure, i could play it in Mame, but the sound effects and music arent a deal maker for me.
anyhow. Kiken. I noticed that i either had a shit lag game. Or a great game, but did have some "lag" nothing bad though and was quite refreshing.

I remember reading in retro gamer about the port R-Types on PSX from Irem. Irem engineers took the source code from the arcade and re-coded part of it in assembly to properly get the arcade experience (i.e slow down). I'm curious to see which port is more faithfull PSX or Xbox 360 ?. I put a penny on PSX.

Yes, I bought it. First only downloaded the demo, but it was pretty short (just first level of R-Type 1), so finally I spent the 1200 points on the full game.
15$ isn't a lot after all, but I also don't see why it should cost more than the average Live game does (which is 800 points I think). I also think my hopes on this one were too big, so I was kind of disappointed.
Looking forward to some of the disc game shmups coming out soon (Do Don Pachi, Death Smile, etc.)

OT:
This makes me wonder why I can have a Japanese account on my US console that can download currently Japanese-only demos (in my case, Raiden Fighters Jet) and proceed to play said demo on my US account. What if demos are released for JPN-only shmups like DDP and Ketsui? It seems as if I can download those demos and play them on my US account, but I can't get the full game because of region locking. There's something wrong here. I'm guessing it's because RFA will soon be available in the US.
Twice I managed to get the backgrounds to disappear. First time was in stage 1... right as I killed the boss, I got hit. Both of us died... the game went to fade to black but then brought up my next life back at the checkpoint... the thing was, the background was still faded, so everything save the enemy sprites and my ship was blacked out. The backgrounds didn't reload until I got to stage 2 (hell, the boss was blacked out until I hit him). Same game... got to stage 3 (first time ever in RT2 on a single credit)... got to the point where the background fades to black as two carriers appear and died. Went back to the checkpoint and the background remained blacked out, although, this time, after scrolling about 2 screen lengths, the red city scape started to reappear.
this conversion is pretty cool, been playing it tonight, focusing on r-type until i beat it. r-type 2 is as bad ass as ever.. I seem to prefer the Retro 2.0 mode.
A bit weak with the fixed control layout, but everything else seems great.

I understand. I think 800 would have been a nice price-point. But as you said, 15 bucks isnt much anyhow.
Amen to that. I have raiden 4 on the way and maybe donpachi sometime in march.
I got an annoying glitch in R-Type: After the first boss the satellite was stuck in the lower left corner of the screen and didn't come back. It also stayed there in stage 2. Had to restart.
I guess the button layout is also very annoying but luckily I have changed the button layout of my Hori Fighting Stick when I put Seimitsu buttons in and accidentally it perfetcly matches the preset R-Type layout
WTB: Arkanoid II Revenge Of Doh PCB, Outzone PCB, Fixeight PCB
Just played the demo. Very cool indeed. I do agree that they should have updated the soundtrack. They could have made it an option to use the newer soundtrack one or the old one. This game seem to be lacking in the user option category. Fixed controls = boo! There's no excuse for that one. Even Aegis Wing let you do that and that was developed by a bunch of students!
Seriously, has there been even one XBLA game that didn't require a patch or two? What are these guys paying thousands in QA testers to do, pick their noses all day?

I guess it's somewhat convenient to let the mass test the game, then work on a patch.
Hmm, I didnt get the only full charge shots for beating level 1 of r-type 2, maybe it doesnt accept the "super charges", but if it counts the initial charging bullets thats a pretty stupid achievement

I agree about the bunch of babies comment...the Xbox crowd's attitude is a real disappointment sometimes. During the Xbox 1 era they bitched that all we had to play was Halo...meanwhile they totally ignored games like Otogi 1 & 2, Beyond Good & Evil (Sadly this was ignored on all formats), Oddworld: Stranger, Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, and other such titles. Now with 360 they bitch about crap XBLA games, often deservedly so, but when something solid comes out they find the quickest excuse they can not to buy it (Ewww it's 1200 points! OMG....that's like what? $15 OMG!!!!). I'd think the shmup crowd would realize that while this game isn't perfection it's a damn nice port with some cool options and if you're into exclusivity it also happens to ONLY be on the 360....plus if we don't support the few devs out there making solid titles then we're just stabbing ourselves in the back. considering the current state of the genre. I've never been a big R-Type fan but I'm buying this just to show my support for the genre and I encourage others to put their money where their mouths are (especially those of you willing to throw down hundreds-thousands on a single pcb).[/b]

It's pretty unfortunate, since console games used to be pretty bug-free due to inability to update them except by producing new CDs/ROMs. Nowadays it seems everyone is taking the PC development path .. push it out the door and patch it later! Cause obviously everyone has a net connection with their console hooked up to it .. >_>

Somehow it is true. However games are also getting more complex and more difficult to become completely bug free. So I think for the user it doesn't always have to be bad to patch the game later on. But it's a problem when publishers release a bugged product already with the intent to release a patch later on anyway.

Refer to my post on I think page 7. I managed to get the achievement even with a couple initial charging bullets. I did it on R-Type I though.
Also for th eorb getting stuck. THis happens all the time. It manages to get stuck every where. Luckily as the screen pushes forward it comes back, but still fucking annoying when it wont come back in key situations.
As for the beam achievement the easiest way to get it is, beam up in the begtinning and hold it until the first powerup. Grab the shield and shield everyone to death. When you get to the boss charge up by firing at a non-breakable part of the boss. Thats how i got it. The rapid fire was glitched for me. Dont know if i care to try it again.

Another good point is if you like shooters, support them. They are not generally top 10 games, so RARITY COSTS. I have good points both for and against the 1,200 pts cost, but the point I am making here is, given the 1,200 pts cost, but the game if you like shooters on your Xbox 360. I want MORE.......
well if you hold the rapid fire button and tap the fire button it fires pretty fast i know it defies the point of rapid fire before you say it.
The other thing level 3 ship no longer takes 1 power shot to kill you have to hit 4 or more times odd.
They should have given us a remixed sound track, would have been nice to have both remixed and origanal it is a bit pricey side 800 point would have been smack on.
but all in all i am happy we could do with more shmups on XBLA.

I didnt even notice there was a rapid fire button. Heh. I did manage to kill the ship in 2 shots. But i cant replicate that.
