Doesn't look as good as the C64 version, but it doesn't look too bad, either.

Kind of reminds me of Baraduke and Mr. Heli. I might give it a try later.

I remember trying it, going down to the second screen, realizing I could sit in one place and basically hold down the fire button and get an infinte score .. then I laughed and turned it off. :S

Cybernoid is more like the underground levels in Air Fortress (I wonder which was published first). It's better in many respects. It's faster, more difficult and the environments changes more rapidly.

I never played the NES version, but the versions for C64, Amstrad CPC, and Spectrum are very fine. (Amstrad looks the best, C64 sounds the best, Spectrum plays the best.)

Cybernoid II is a much better game, though.

it's been a long time since i've played either the C64 or the NES version, but the two things that i remember that differed in the NES version was the Japanified death screen and the fact that some of the timings were significantly different for bullets/enemies.

WAY back in the day i'd played Cybernoid enough to get pretty far into it on the C64, i remember playing the NES version and getting to points where the bullet timing seemed to be much quicker. So segments where you are ducking into gaps changed pretty significantly.

as i say , it's some time ago. i should revist.

Cybernoid always felt somewhat like a shooter puzzle to me, a great game but as previously mentioned by another poster, the follow on game was much more refined.

This is a pretty accurate description. I still own my copy. If memory serves (I haven't played it in a LONG time), there were some spots that were quite annoying due to near-unavoidable hits, and some of the maneuvers required were pretty pain-staking. Otherwise, it's solid, but unremarkable.

I guess I played something like it on the amiga. It's a platformer.

well, it's certainly not a traditional shooter, but platformer ?

You could sit there for days shooting enemies and still not get as much score as you would when you complete a level in the shortest time possible. The way to score is to try and balance the hoarding of crystals with the amount of time you have left. You don't die when the timer runs out, you just get no bonus when you complete the level.

That NES version looks like a watered-down iteration of the C64 version. The Spectrum version was the best version of this game.
