What is the going price for Guwange and Progear
Im thinking of purchasing one pcb of the following in the near future
Guwange
Progear
Raiden Fighter 2
Bakraid...
which shmup is a great game to really blast me off my feet once my supergun arrives

The cave whore count in this thread is unbelievable!!!
it is also the least likely to blast anybody off his feet, however. Neither technically nor designwise impressive, nice sound though. If you happen to love everything that is controversial about Battle Garegga, Bakraid might be something for you. It is very easy to get into, but extremely hard to get good at.Battle Bakraid should be the cheapest of that list.
Guwange, however, looks and sounds very impressive, but challenges you to start over from the beginning, throwing everything you learned about shmups overboard and accept it as a one-of-a-kind challenge.
Progear, I´d say is for those who love ESPGaluda but prefer horizontal shmups.
Raiden Fighters 2 should be the most "neutral" choice of the pack. Very high chances of liking it from the get-go, but not as special as the other 3. Iirc, you were quite into Strikers 1999, right? RF2 is certainly more similar to this one than the other 3, although it´s still quite a different game.
I'm actually really enjoying Battle Bakraid and should be putting a review up on Plasma Blossom sometime in the weekend. I find it both impressive and a huge amount of fun. It's just a shame that it can't get away from Battle Gareggas shadow.
In fact if truth be told i'm having much more fun with Bakraid than I ever did with Garegga.

I've been playing Bakraid on & off now for about a year on Mame. I just bought the board just over a month ago now. I'm not too bothered about score to tell you the truth Raiden, I like to play shmups for a survival/1cc. Battle Bakraid isn't really that hard to do compared to some other games (DDP - DOJ/Ketsui
), however I still have trouble clearing the advanced course. After that I guess it'll be the Boss Mode.
I understand the very harsh scoring/profitable suiciding mechanic that is involved with Bakraid and i know what you mean about hitting a wall with the game, but i'm prepared to take the time out and learn, because I really like this game.

Guwange and Progear are must-haves, IMO. They will be expensive, but worth the money (more fun than a PSP).
Raiden Fighters 2 is great, but may or may not work on your monitor due to its wacky scanrate.
Bakraid is a fun game, but kind of derivative and not as spectacular as the rest. It's also not very expensive, so you should buy it anyways.

There's a reason why I sold my Guwange board to Dewclaw. I can see that it's Cave quality and all, but it didn't grab me. I'd rather be playing Donpachi, which I think is an excellent game but probably Cave's "worst". I then used the money for Progear, which I hope will be as good as the other excellent Cave games I have. Wouldn't have sold off Guwange for anything else than a Cave game.
Just to pose an opposite view, my initial thoughts of progrear wasn't very good after playing a bit in mame. First its Hori (I'm not against Hori, but means I'd have to rotate one of my cabs back...and just for this game). The music also sounds to kiddie like to me. And if you get any good, and start streaming their fire to jems (like in the superplays), all you will be hearing is this annoying chime sound for most of the game anyway.
Before people start flaming me, I'm sure all I need to do is really sit down with the real PCB for a long while to get "into it"...and this has been the case with most of the cave games for me. But I recommend people watch the superplay for the real game mechanics involved.

No, you have a point. The jewel vacuuming system and how to balance the different gems & stones is way more complicated than how it feels. Click and others on his board have commented on this many times. It's going to take me months to get the hang of it (will start playing it again after I finally 1CC Batsugun).Dave_K. wrote:Just to pose an opposite view, my initial thoughts of progrear wasn't very good after playing a bit in mame. Well, months to master maybe.undamned wrote:Mmm, not months, unless you only play a couple times a week.Dylan1CC wrote:It's going to take me months to get the hang of it (will start playing it again after I finally 1CC Batsugun).

It's unfortunate... In all my personal gaming history I've only ever sold Tiger Heli and Asphalt Urban GT... but now that I'm starting to get into PCB, I'm contemplating selling more...
I finally got Zeroigar in the mail but buying a PC-FX has now been put on long-term hold. But I really do have a bunch of other crap I could sell...
I'm wondering if I should get either of these games too, but the possibility of Progear suiciding has me terrified... I'd probably end up changing the battery several times a year or something :p

I prefer Guwange as it's a vert and I prefer it's more manic style.
But as most people are saying, either would be an excellent choice.

Be attitude for gains:
1) Be praying...
2) Be praying...
3) Be praying...
And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

has it dropped to reasonable prices again? I already have problems convincing myself to get one regular Cave PCB like Dangun Feveron for the price of 5 Toaplan PCBs, but Ketsui... okay, I haven´t played it yet, but it looks so generic, and the gameplay a part of what ESPGaluda offers already, I´d never pay the €500 asked for it last time I checked. Imo, it´s time Ketsui got mame´d, so the price is balanced to other games again. There's always Ketsui.
Around here, Toaplan PCBs get tossed around ebay for about €20-30. Recently, Flying Shark went for €50, but that could have been due to a slight hype in a local message board.
Ketsui gives more valuable score cubes for point blanking enemies. ESPGaluda gives more green gems that can be used for scoring.

This one aspect may be similar, but the gameplay between Ketsui and ESPGaluda is completely different. ESPGaluda is much slower in pace. Ketsui is "in your face" manic without the rigid chaining of something like DDPDOJ.raiden wrote: Ketsui gives more valuable score cubes for point blanking enemies.
