Anyone think it's a shame there's nobody new in the game? I appreciate the new sprites a lot, but wouldn't it be nice to have someone new? or at least a new design for old characters? Similar to how Terry has a different outfit and look in MotW.

I'm sorry to be the guy to upset you. I don't really hate any KOF (well...maybe 99...and 2001 :D) but some I prefer more than others. I agree there's plenty of personality, but I usually put the way the game plays first and let that determine how much time I'm willing to spend with it.
Strikers are okay, just not for me.

At least we can both agree, this re-birth looks totally awesome.

It's alright, at least you were coherent and polite and skipped 2000 in the list of KOFs you hate. I guess I've gotten kinda bitter and oversensitive to this topic, after seeing so much shit happen in KOF boards out there.
It's a shame you don't like the striker system, me and my KOF-loving friends have a lot of fun with it... but let's leave it at that.

My (completely unsupported) feeling on this is that SNK is deliberately playing it relatively safe for this first "reborn" KoF release, in terms of both the roster makeup and its size, to see what kind of response they get to the new look (which, I'm sure, cost a good-sized chunk of cash to implement). If it does well, for the next release they can be assured of an audience for the next one, not to mention start recycling some of the used sprites, and can focus more on the "trimmings," for lack of a better word.

I think it's because they're not finished with all of the sprites. KOF on average has a WAY bigger cast per games than what was shown in the trailer. They haven't even shown Yuri yet, and she's in about every KOF game also.

I'm really hoping this comes out on the 360, I'd be really disappointed if not.

"yet"? Isn't it already defined? I don't see any more space for new characters, and I read somewhere that all the ones that will make it to the final game were shown already.

Besides, it's a dream match. It'd make no sense to add new characters. :P Shame they didn't put K', Kula, Vanessa and/or Ramón in this one. Guess I'll have to wait till XIII to see them looking as good as this.

Online is nice as long as there isn't game breaking lag. The idea is neat since it's so hard to find someone in my area that can play SFIII3, and I ain't very good at all.

If your connection is decent try 2DF.

I'm with Bulletmagnet, I think SNK have put plenty of effort into the development of this one, and they're consciously holding back on having a massive character roster.
I read that it's meant to be similar in scale to 94 in terms of simplicity - that way we can all be delighted with the re-introduction of our favourite characters for the next ten years. 8)

I doubt it's even a matter of choice. This is the first time they've actually pulled their finger out and redrawn everything from scratch, not to mention the fact it's all high res with an additional ton of frames to draw. KoF didn't start with an overblown character roster, but was the product of 11 years of adding characters into the mix. Fortunately for SNK, XII's graphical overhaul gives them the perfect opportunity to begin the cycle anew.

And for a small company such as SNK, they're doing one HELL of a job.

I can't even imagine how AMAZING the next KOFs will be after this first step.

On a side note, I wonder who the boss is going to be? Obvious choice would be Rugal, but maybe they end up using someone else?
And if it is Rugal...

Interesting discussion about the game from a forum that doesn't seem to be drooling quite so hard over it:

That's more like two "points," lad. hehehoho

Anyway I'd rather have Mai than Yuri, who's always been something of a joke character. Also what the hell is up with Athena's looking all jacked up loli. Every character in the roster has this realistic look and then you get to Athena with those huge ass eyes and messed up face.

Weird how if a developer puts boobs into a shmup everyone cries foul, but if one takes boobs out of a fighting game everyone's just as upset about it?

Who's everyone and how can I let them know I don't belong to their organization? Ever since the age of 11, I've been a huge proponent of putting huge luscious boobs in every part of our society. Hell I even worked my ass off to beat strikers 1945 to the point where I could see the endings filled with boobies.

I wish they had scrapped most of the old roster and started anew like SF3. Just add a pair of popular boobs and some iconic characters. I guess they can't just do that since KoF is a dream match kinda game, though.

New characters is the way to go imo. I wish KoF12 didn't feel like a KoF remake and that SF4 didn't feel like SF2.5, but game companies are too afraid of risk nowadays.

Especially in terms of fighting games, it's been that way for quite some time - you might've heard the story of Capcom originally intending for SF3 to have an all-new cast, but fans went ballistic and they included Ryu and Ken (and later others). If the gaming public (including so-called "hardcore" gamers who didn't want to have to learn a new character or two) was more willing to try something new, more developers would be eager to tap that well - as it stands, they can't be blamed too much for doing what they have to do to turn a profit, regrettable as it is.

So they just cut Elisabeth from the game? That's messed up. They ought to remedy this issue in the home version a la SF4.

The magic she used to stay looking like jailbait over the past decade is acting wonky?

Personally, I would have like if the kept her '99 look.

It's a dream match, we can't complain. :P
SockPuppetHyren wrote: The magic she used to stay looking like jailbait over the past decade is acting wonky?
If this was the case, the effect would be inverse. She'd turn into a 40 year old, maybe even older. But still in a school uniform.

No idea, I'm just sure I read it somewhere not long ago. If it turns out that there are more chars yet to be added, I'll be really happy, but it doesn't seem likely. There isn't even any more space in the screen. >_>

Before playing SF3, I would have complained, but after playing SF3 for some time, I just want Capcom to move forward. I think it is unnecesary to have almost the full SF2 roster in SF4 since people who want to play as the old characters could just get Turbo Remix. People are stupid and Capcom is even more stupid for listening to them. Capcom are shooting themselves in the foot by having SF4 render Turbo Remix obsolete once it comes out. Why the hell would anyone get Turbo Remix if they can play almost all the SF2 characters in SF4?

I think so too. It's good when characters are popular, but I think some players get a little too attached to them.

Cyberfanatix has posted lots of articles and interviews on the game over the past year. You're right, the 20-chars that have been shown are supposed to be the final roster, and there's no boss or story/endings. I think it's understandable, though, since it takes a huge effort to draw even 20 high-res characters off the bat. KOF XII still has way more than the other recent 2D fighters starting from scratch, like Arcana Heart or Blazblue.

Anyway, KOF 2002 Unlimited Match is looking good too.
