Not really, no. 1942 is an old timey scrolling shooter with lots of "enemy waves". Strikers is a boss rush in comparison. There are lots of WWII theme games in many genres. Strikers is not strictly WWII-themed.

If Strikers is a 1942 rip-off, you're probably stuck on the fact that the power-up icons are the same in most Psikyo games, right?
Sengoku Blade is to..well, all of Psikyo's output, as Progear is to most of Cave's games. Same game, different viewpoint.
No one mentioned this as an example of variety. Ever.

kengou wrote:For me it's the unfairness factor. The first time you play a psikyo game it's all but impossible to make it through the game on skill. The patterns are just pure memorisation of the safe spots. There's not a whole lot of fun dodging those things. The lack of a movement-slowdown button only exacerbates the problem in many situations too.

It's not just a matter of fast bullets versus slow bullets, either. Dangun Feveron or DOJ have pretty fast bullets and patterns but they still feel a lot more fair than most psikyo games even when they're harder games overall.

Also Touhou has very little in common with Cave. Just...no.

I agree of course. Touhou definitely isnt even remotely Cave-ish.

I think you can guess though, Kengou, as to the other part of what I'll say here, in that I still dont feel like anything of Psikyo's is really "unfair" or anything like that.... I just cant memorize ANYTHING worth crap, but I seem to do just fine, for the most part.

I do however think that coming into something like their games, from something like Cave's stuff, or the more "traditional" type shmups like Gradius, yeah, that's gonna make it harder.

Im rather more used to Cave's stuff, myself.... as it is, when Im gonna go down in a Psikyo game, it's almost always to the ONE bullet that I fully know is there, but my method of reacting to it is to crash directly into it. Often, it's the only bullet on the screen and not moving all that fast :P

If things are firing wild waves of crap at me constantly, I dont have as much trouble.....

Just a matter of opinion though really. Cave and Psikyo are my 2 favorites, and also..... uh.... whoever makes Star Soldier. Hudson, I think. Not that fond of Raizing, though, despite what many think of them.

I wouldn't say it's exactly a "rip off", but it's REALLY close. It's like the sequel Capcom never made(well, they did make 19xx, which I by far prefer).

Anyhoo, it's by far more of a rip off than Soukyugurentai is to Layer Section.

I actually downloaded Strikers II again(only the 3rd time....and I owned it) to see if maybe I was being too harsh.

Man, I hate their games. Every stage is exactly the same, but with more bullets, that are sped up. I mean, the enemy patterns are boring as hell, the bosses all do that damn mech thing(as they do in every game of theirs). You guys can say all you want, but to me Psikyo is the definition of mediocre. And their gameplay is a more manic version of relics from the past.

The level of misinformation and uninformed opinions made in this thread are at an all time high....

What is sad though is that noone was quite able to clearly call it out. In the end the good informed posts get lost in the whole.

I guess the thing that stands out the most here is that we do not have many knowledgeable members regarding psikyo games. (I know very little about psikyo and was able pick out so much BS)

Heh, well, if anything, playing alot of Gunbird 2 then switching to Strikers 1945 II makes Strikers seem a crapton easier =) I hadn't played Strikers 1945 II in months and months, and I'd forgotten everything, where to place charge shots, the boss pattern orders... All that (what little I knew to begin with), and while I was worse at medal timing than I was last time I played, I made it to 1-7, which is a first for me.
