No, a lot of japanese players score more than I do, up to 748M (my score is 488M). Maybe I'm in the top 30, don't know really.

The chain is really easy to make. 1-2 isn't hard to chain that far, and in 1-5 it's hard not to.

Even A-L, at least imo... You have to move constantly so it's not like you'll miss anything.

Question for the peeps playing PS1 DDP tated. Is there a lot of cut off on the screen? Just asking because PS1 Raiden DX tated there is so much cut off on the sides.

Dodonpachi looks terrible on the PS1. I have not tried it TATE'd but the colors are so washed out compared to playing it on MAME.

Die? In 1-5? What kind of moron would suck so bad that they'd ever die on stage 1-5?

Oh wait... Goddamnit.

Dodonpachi looks terrible when not tated on ps1, and almost perfect when tated. Nothing is cut off, as far as I can tell. My score was only 28 mil when I beat it, I need to work on my chaining..

I'm going straight to DOJ; I don't like playing DDP in MAME and I don't want to pay $100 for the PSOne version.

for a lot of games in mame the gamma levels are too high so thats probably why the ps1 version would look odd to you....its closer to how it should look color levels wise.....

the pcb looks pretty...but i still dont like this game

I chuckled at your sig, by the way, Matsunaga =) Looks like he's gonna win, from what I hear.
For m3tall1ca,

Consider it a cheaper & alternative method of playing DDP on the PSX...if you can't afford the real PCB deal for now.

The PSX version of DDP is better than the SS version hands down. SPS definitely did their homework with the DDP port and it's make your PSX smoke with all that Cave flavored danmaku. ^_~

SCEA shot down a possible USA PSX release game combo deal of Donpachi and DoDonpachi from the likes of Agetech and their $10.00 USD PSX budget games lineup back in the day. If it had gone through, you'd possibly would've them both by now. Just stick with the PSX imports of DP and DDP and you'll do just fine...

DDP is a very nicely balanced game, survival-wise (never cared for the scoring), whereas DDP:DOJ REALLY just rips me apart every time. The difficulty gap between these two games is just tremendous.

Also, for some reason I really looked forward to playing DOJ, but when I finally could I really didn´t like it, whereas I still enjoy DDP a lot. Maybe it´s the stage design? DOJ also has something really depressing about it, joyless somehow, like this game doesn´t wants me to play it, again unlike DDP. But that´s just me, many people enjoy it a lot

I LOVE DOJ. If only I could find a PS2 emulator or something that would fit on and run off of a flash drive so I could take it with me whever I go, like I do with MAME stuff.

I usually have to step away from the game for awhile when I die in an early level because I get frustrated with myself.

I get stubborn and keep trying. It's only when I die early 3-4 runs in a row and I start getting bored with the first three stages that I have to take a break. Once I get frustrated and bored, there's no way I can play properly.

DOJ Death Label is lots of fun. I like it the most that playing it extensively makes the regular first loop bosses look really, really easy afterwards, while in truth they're still harder than about 95% of the first loop bosses ever conceived by any shmups.
