Dodonpachi goes down.. finally

Post by Matsunaga »

After over 5 years, and thousands of tries, I got the 1cc a few minutes ago. I was on my last life with 3 bombs left. No second loop, but who cares, I finally did it. Just in time for Thunder Force VI..

I don't think I've ever beat any of those fucking arcade games on 1 credit. I've been DoDonPachi on and off for a couple of years now, and I'm lucky if I make it to the 5th stage. Oh well... :(

For Matsunaga,

Did you 1CC DDP on a real PCB setup or by using Mame, Mame32 emulation? Still an impressive feat any way how you play it. ^_~

I did this recently too. I think I'm done with this game I've done all I can without learning chaining, very fun ride.
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.

When I first saw this thread title I thought it was someone late to the '08 top 25 shooters of all time thread =)

Congrats on the 1cc! As much as many around here would have you believe it's simple enough to just bomb whore your way to the 1cc, it's really still no walk in the park at all.

Pretty geeky, but I was really quite thrilled when I first did this... I was actually *nervous* in the second half of the 1-6 boss

Ah, that's right. I should finish this. Last time I got anywhere was the stage 5 boss. I suppose stage 6 is the big one, right?

Geeky? Are you kidding me? That nervous rush is why a lot of us enjoy playing shooters so much. I STILL get nervous anytime I'm doing well on a run in DDP. Whenever I have an amazing personal score-breaking run I generally have to go for a walk or something to cool off =P

Word! (This is not in relation to DDP) My mind is blown when the High-Score number in the top-middle of the screen is rising synchronously with my own score on the top-left side when I'm farther than I've ever been before.

Yeah, it's like GaijinPunch said, your own mind is the worst form of rank. Nothing sucks harder than getting to level 5 with four lives left and thinking "Man, I am totally gonna fuck this up."

Hehe, that's a good way of putting it =D Mental rank.

My own nervousness was a fairly significant hurdle during my first ever 1cc (Ikaruga). I had one really REALLY great run where I only died once or so before stage 5 with 20M+ points, and was thinking "THIS IS THE RUN! THIS IS IT!" And I got so nervous and excited that I almost couldn't see straight and I got my ass handed to me before I even got half-way through the stone-like's patterns =P I think I died once on the 4 turret boss, once on his second form with the lightning snakes, once on mister switch-spam, and then the rest went to the stone-like.

It was very depressing.

Hahaha this is great

The first time I got to stage 6 on DDP, I died like this... Bam bam bam bam right in a row. Earlier, I was thinking "WOW GREAT RUN OMG STAY STEADY"

Actually, most of my best DDP runs involve me screwing up HARD in stage 5. The process goes something like this.

Amazing run of stages 1-4, start getting nervous on 5, because it's a trouble stage. I screw up hard (multiple deaths in a row), and then, since I "screwd up" the run, I stop caring, relax a lot, and proceed to do amaizngly on stage 1-6, and decently (considering my lack of practice) on the second loop =P

My last 2 or 3 high scores have had TERRIBLE stage 1-5 runs =P

Which means that just like in a Raizing game, dying reduces your mental rank

Maybe I'l try that next time I'm out of bombs. Just die all controlled like so I can recoup and get back into it.

That stage 6 boss shouldn't be bomb spamed against till he's at least 70 percent dead. His first few patterns especially his first aren't that hard. I like having all the bombs I can for the last two patterns.

I got question for you guys. How do you go about getting the second loop in this game? I want to be able to face the infamous Hibachi but I hear its nearly impossible (?) to face him because you need to complete a set of objectives while you play? I have no idea to be honest, this is something that I read on some site. So can anyone tell me what do you have to do exactly.

I'm playing Dodonpachi on MAME btw.

- Take all 13 bees in at least 4 stages.
OR
- Lose no more than 2 ships.
OR
- Have a max chain of at least 270 / 290 / 310 ? (depending on ship type)
OR
- Have a score of at least 50M.

This is approximate, I forgot the real numbers :p The easiest is probably the max chain or the score. You will be able to say "hi" to Hibachi at the end of that second loop.

Jesus Christ. Haha. I guess I can kiss my chances of accomplishing those good bye. Actually, maybe the max chain might not be too hard, who knows.

Aren't you the worldwide top scorer in Dodonpachi btw? :)
