Ugh, that sucks. Didn't the Gamecube version of Radirgy have true tate?Jockel wrote:Oh yeah, the Jap Version had only fake tate.
(= including rotated controls) so you're better off playing it in yoko :/
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Just curious, would you consider Giga Wings scoring system to be broken too?Zweihander wrote:If Chaos Field was well-designed, the time bonus and the milking mechanics would have worked in harmony with one another. But they didn't, so you're really forced to choose between an exceedingly high milking bonus or a considerable lower time attack bonus.
They could have solved this by giving you more time and a higher score for time bonuses (thus making boss-killing worth your time), or simply not making the time limit give you a bonus. (i.e. the "keep milking til the clock runs out" display, which is how I ultimately ended up playing it.)
Feedback will set you free.

Hopefully it doesn't; we've been waiting too long for any version of Radilgy to be released outside of Japan.Warp_Rattler wrote:This is starting off suspiciously like O3's US Gamecube release of Radirgy. Ship date hits... game nowhere to be seen. No news or press announcement either, just Amazon with a revised release date. Here's hoping this collection doesn't end up the same way.
WTF is fake tate? Is that tate display with yoko controls?Jockel wrote:Oh yeah, the Jap Version had only fake tate.ZeetherKID77 wrote:I wonder if UFO is putting back TATE or the extra modes, considering how far off the release date is...

The Unofficial Shmup Glossary wrote:Tateyoko: Unofficial term referring to a “combination” viewing mode in which players can play a vertical shmup in tate mode without flipping their screen to its side. In this mode the screen is rotated to “3:4” tate mode, but the game’s directional controls are also rotated 90 degrees, so that the game can be played in similar manner to a horizontal shmup, in full screen. Not exactly an “authentic” experience, but it does allow those without the ability to play in “true tate” to experience a shmup in its originally-intended view mode, just from a different angle, so to speak.

For some reason, even though the fake tate mode is described as being similar to a normal hori, I have the hardest time playing them as such. What with the sprites (and half the time, the score counter etc.) now being flipped on their side, my brain gets very disoriented trying to pay attention to something it knows it oriented the wrong way.
It's a really similar feeling to trying to play a tate'd game with your head tilted to the side, actually.

Well, UFO's site also says the 2nd of December, so I think we'll see it.RackGaki wrote:This is starting to sound more and more like Radio Allergy's attempted release on the Gamecube. Was hoping UFO could be more timely than O3 was.

I'm curious as to why UFO has been insistent on announcing concrete dates when clearly some game-delaying issues are constantly creeping up on them. I would be happier with a generic Q1 2009 announcement at this point.
But the date keeps stepping backwards...

I honestly doubt the problem at this point is UFO.RackGaki wrote:I'm curious as to why UFO has been insistent on announcing concrete dates when clearly some game-delaying issues are constantly creeping up on them. I would be happier with a generic Q1 2009 announcement at this point.

Well, the problem is likely UFO or Tommo. The distribution of this game will probably be only four or five digits, but it would be odd if retailers were flat out refusing to sell the game at this time. Radio Allergy dies because enough retailers didn't want to stock it, but UFO has been doing small print runs these past few years anyways.
It certainly couldn't have much to do with localization, the ESRB, or Milestone - could it?
