Is USA region Wii shmup Ultimate Shooting Collection out?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I went into my local Gamestop store last week and inquired about if the upcoming UFO Interactive's USA region Wii shmup port of Milestone's "Ultimate Shooting Collection" was going to be in on 9/23/2008. The Gamestop associate said that it wasn't in the computer database. He told me to let him know if and when it finally comes out -- I told him that I would. ^_~

Has it already been released through normal USA game distribution channels or not?

I recall that the same situtation with the USA Wii port of Castle of Shikigami 3 with Gamestop saying that it was in their CPU system but not able to accept pre-orders. Eventually, it did end up being stocked/sold at Gamestop. That particular Wii shmup title now carries a very nice (and affordable on the wallet) $19.99 USD price tag. It used to be priced at $29.99 USD on day one of release.

i preordered at amazon, but they say it isn't shipping until the 29th.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was "released" on tuesday, but sent to retailers via the cheapest i.e. slowest means possible due to the presumably low anticipated sales.

I bought Shiki 3 for the Wii on day 1 for $30, still have no regrets. Same with Nanostray 2 on the DS.

I really hope this Milestone collection isn't just a compilation of Chaos Field, Radilgy, and Radilgy: Goth Edition (Karous), as each of those games isn't even worth $5, IMO...

What do you mean? That is *exactly* what it is. I actually liked Chaos Field. It was broken but still enjoyable for a quick shmup fix.

As a funny side note, amazon suggests the Nyko gun peripheral for the game.

Ugh, I hate being jerked around like this. There's plenty of other games I want coming out in November too.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

It has a handful of fans on here - I'm not in love with it, myself, but don't think it's as bad as many make it out to be.

Agreed...

I thought Radilgy was sort of fun, though I only downloaded it to have something to play while waiting for Under Defeat. Karous was basically the same game, but easily the ugliest shmup I've ever seen. Visuals were an eyesore.

You know, the 'cube version of Radio Allergy had the same level of completion and well we all waited and it got canned at the last minute.

ahh you know how it is here man any game with something a bit different about it must be terrible! chaos field isnt for me but its not a bad game by any means radilgy is a effing superb game though and karous was highly enjoyable pushing for score, if a little easy on the survival side of things , and definitely not ugly infact i love the cell shading style . Karous differs from radilgy on a fair few fundamental factors just goes to show how little some people played them i guess .

I wonder if UFO is putting back TATE or the extra modes, considering how far off the release date is...

I doubt it. I'm sure the game is finished now; they're just choosing November for the holiday rush.

I couldn't stand the scoring... though I felt it was much less broken than Chaos Field, at least. I guess whenever I played Radilgy or Karous it always felt like I was spending too much time juggling the different weapons' systems, keeping them in check... and not enough actually playing, if that makes sense.

I hope Skonec makes Psyvariar 3 at some point. Homura was fun, Shiki 3 was a great collab, but I want more buzzing action.

don't worry i get what you're saying and can understand how it can be unappealing to a lot of people

Well, I for one really enjoyed Chaos Field. It was one of my first DC purchases, and I still get a kick out of it.

Radirgy on the other hand was a total disappointment for me (yet another shooter I bought on mass opinion, only to be disappointed). So much so that I skipped Karous all together.

The fact that they implement a time bonus for quickly killing a boss, but it's outweighed tenfold by the milking potential. They just shouldn't have given you a time bonus at all; a simple count-down would have been enough. If I wanted to play BOSS MILKAN GAIMS, I'd just fire up Psyvariar Revision or 2.

I wouldn't exactly call that "broken"... Most shoot 'em ups have competing scoring mechanics.

If Chaos Field was well-designed, the time bonus and the milking mechanics would have worked in harmony with one another. But they didn't, so you're really forced to choose between an exceedingly high milking bonus or a considerable lower time attack bonus.

They could have solved this by giving you more time and a higher score for time bonuses (thus making boss-killing worth your time), or simply not making the time limit give you a bonus. (i.e. the "keep milking til the clock runs out" display, which is how I ultimately ended up playing it.)

The point of the game is to kill the boss with a high hit counter. If you don't kill him you are missing out on millions of points.

Well, all I know is that I managed to get 10x the normal score (by destroying the segments and killing the boss) by simply milking the boss in Chaos mode. They just didn't playtest the game enough to polish the scoring system. What's the point of killing a boss for peanuts when a mountain of gold awaits those who sit there milking the bastard?

Oh yeah, the Jap Version had only fake tate.
(= including rotated controls) so you're better off playing it in yoko :/
