Just another question - how do you get 100% shot down rate in level 7? I'm quite sure I've hit everything but I always only get up to 99.7%? Seems as if I'm missing something!?

Is Stage 4 the only stage with an extend?

maybe my perception is skewed but it sounds kind of easy if you guys are reaching the later levels already...is the game lacking challenge (from a survival aspect). If yes, I hope it at least has a good enough scoring system to keep it interesting.

I don't find it easy, really. I generally make it to level 4 and then die off. But I don't know where extends are and I'm not used to Raiden style bullet patterns... so...

I could only make it to level 2 boss without losing a life if I'm lucky. :( I don't know about normal enemy bullet patterns as they can be very varied, and that takes skill to move around and not get trapped. Though using a bomb works to get out of some sticky situations.

Boss patterns are another matter. It seems that some of the most complicated bullet patterns actually requires you to move slightly each time in order not to take a hit instead of dodging around like a madman.

Yeah, the boss patterns are fairly nasty, I think. Especially from level 3 on.

For the arcade version (original mode),
Loop 1: Stage 3 is extra bomb, Stage 4 is 1-up
Loop 2: Stage 3 is 1-up, Stage 4 is extra bomb

IGN also list Japanese games too. Errm... their page is wrong, because this isn't by UFO but MOSS. >_>

I don't see anything listed about it being released in America either.

That IGN blurb about the game is 1-2 years old. It's from before the Japanese X360 version was even announced.

why is the leaderboard score loading taking so long if you chose browse score by friends ?! It takes nearly a minute till the scores appear

Shonky coding, I suppose - first time I tried it, it took so long that I thought my console had frozen. There's really no *good* reason for it to be happening.

Cool. Got my JP 360 back (from repair..) and had an opportunity to play this today. At first I didn't understand the scoring system at all, thinking you had to constantly time your fire so packs of missiles would bring bonuses. After checking the top replay out, that's not right. Apparently it has more of a Ketsui feel where you're rewarded for killing enemies almost immediately. And in traditional Raiden fashion, the first boss can be taken out by just hovering above it and moving appropriately.

So far I don't really have any complaints that wouldn't be seen outside of previous Raiden games. Most flaws like blind shots are still present, and they're going to have you saying "where did that come from?" over and over again. I really like the high def feel. I don't really mind how some patterns suffer from "touhou syndrome" (ie. just tap slightly left/right to pass through them) since I used to play the series often anyway. One thing I did notice was the lack of options it had in comparison to Raiden Fighters Aces. It isn't a big deal, but since I'm playing on a monitor I'd rather have an option to change the game into 16:10, which was present in RFA but isn't present here.

That's happening on mine & I have no idea why.

Can someone tell me if the DLC is worth buying (extra ship and fairy)?

Only if you want some variety to the game. Anyway they just cost 80 points for each ship. I haven't tried it yet but I'm fairly sure that these DLC ships can't be used for completing certain types of achievements, eg. Vulcan, Laser, Plasma, Proton specialization. The Fairy is the weakest of the three but the hit box is very small. Raiden mk-II has the most strongest firepower out of the three.

In my opinion Raiden IV is a really great game but what happened with the sound. Moss must be kidding or my setup or the DVD is flawed. The shots of my own ship I hear only through the left speaker as well as the explosions of the enemies (apart from the end bosses). Only BGM is stereo. No one else with the same problem?

Yes, I've noticed this happens when I'm playing. Sound effects only come through the Left audio channel while BGM comes through in stereo. This might be a glitch with certain TVs/Set-ups. I'm playing on a tate'd SD set.

I wanted to download the 2 ships but always got the message: Can't retrieve data from XBox.Live. Do I need a japanese account to download the ships? And if so, can I acces the ships with my pal account then?

Also, does anyone know the Secret Achievements already?

And what's behind the option "???" in the main menu?

Thanks

1. Yes, you need a Japanese XBL gold account, complete with Asian address. Otherwise there's currently no other way to get them. I'm sure once you buy the ships you can use them on any account

2. I only know two: Undaunted Fighting Spirit (不屈の闘志) - Clear a level with 0 lives (does not count continues) and 0 bombs left. Big Fireworks Festival (大花火大会) - Use up all bombs (must be 7 in stock) at once in a stage. If anybody knows the remaining three, please post it here.

3. Boss Rush Mode.

Quote from Play-Asia's comment on the Japanese XBL points card:
This product can only be used by Asian XBOX Live account, no matter what XBOX 360 region that you have. So, this item can be used if, for example, you make a Singapore XBOX Live account to be used in your japanese XBOX 360.
I think what the comment didn't say was you need an Asian or Japanese XBL gold account first before you can purchase or exchange points.

So, what's a ソル anyway? Is that achievement just 100% shoot down rate in Missions 1~7 on X360 mode?

Also the Raiden mk-II was definitely worth the purchase. It's balanced for the Raiden/Raiden II feel, complete with a very deliberate rate of movement and the fact that you're totally hosed if you die.

I think you have mistaken the 100% shoot down rate, that one's for Level 7. The Sol (ソル) or whatever it's called are actually cone shaped beacons that can be found in each level. I remembered seeing one at the 1st stage boss in gameplay videos before the game's release, but I have no idea how to make it appear. So you have to destroy each of this in each level cumulatively. If you check your achievements for Raiden IV you can take a look at the picture of the beacon.

Pretty sure that you can buy points if you have a silver account.

To raise the beacons, you have to hover over them for a second or two (you'll see a small pyramid sticking out of the ground).

I just got another secret achievement.
It's called Nice Bomb and I think the description says blow up 12 enemies with one bomb.

Thanks! I managed to find it in stage 2.
Is there one in each stage or more?
Do I have to find them all in one game to get the achievement?

Can someone tell me what the first and second questions are after Game Over? (The third one is if you want to save the replay)

Yes, there's one in each stage. Since they contribute to completion percentage, you'll have to trigger them all.
