Yeah but spare ones are really expensive, for me at least it was cheaper to get a stepdown

You can use the power supply from a PAL 360 on a Japanese console, if that's what you're asking.

Sorry if that's not what you're asking -I'm not too hot on PSU questions.

Some great advice can be found for UK importers of Jap 360's at this thread:

http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.ph ... 32&t=73466

I've ordered a JAP 360 myself and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival (the announcement of the Deathsmiles conversion finally tipped me over the edge).

Maplin sell a great range of step-downs if you come up against the incompatible connector problem.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... wn&doy=5m5

The 300W version is needed, a PS2 or DC compatible will not work.

I can see myself getting one in the future now, but I'll wait for the complaints on the ports first :D

asian 360's work in the uk (240v) without a stepdown, and play japanese games, in case that's of any help to anyone.

Thanks for the link. This is exactly the info I've been looking for. So it looks like an Asian system is the best one to buy from a UK perspective. Awesome stuff.

I just got two in from Amazon. Note that they were on order for the greater part of 2 weeks. Not sure if that means it's business as usual, or there's more waiting to be had.

The X360 has outsold it in Japan every week since its price drop early last month.
How does that change anything about what I said in my last post?

It shows that contrary to what you wrote it has not been selling fairly well there since launch, and in the past 5 weeks many potential buyers are buying an X360 instead.

I own both systems, by the way. Both collect dust too. :?

Son of a bitch, that's a good price. Did they repost it or is the original posting still left up there?

Whenever I'm done playing my portable games, I'm posting on forums somewhere. I play games when I get home; no sense talking about them when I could be playing them.

Buuuut I'm not about to buy this thing just to find out that the guy has tons of them available. So... if anyone else in this thread wants a 360 at a price that doesn't hurt, pick them up from this guy. I wonder what's going on with the sudden influx of cheap NTSC/J consoles...

Understandable, I only bit because he has such huge amount of positive feedback I guess I'll be the lab rat. If it goes well I'll let everyone know, I for hope that we do see a huge amount of cheap J-360 for all those still on the fence about buying one, hell a lot of use have paid more for one game that the cost of this system now. As for me Rack I'm off to play some Senko No Ronde.

If you know the box is not refurbished and the power brick or box says 175W, it's definitely a Falcon. There are some 203W Falcons out there as well, but most aren't.
Very recently people have been reporting that display boxes don't show the wattage anymore...so I assume if you can't find the information, it's a Falcon. (Or maybe a unicorn.)
RackGaki wrote:Buuuut I'm not about to buy this thing just to find out that the guy has tons of them available.
I'd be more concerned that they're launch boxes that he bought up for cheap and dumped on Amazon. The fact that he's saying you need a power converter also has me wary; if they were really JP units as opposed to Asian units, you wouldn't.

But obviously, mrtie can investigate this when he gets his. Please let us know what's up! I gotta admit that for $205 I'm kinda tempted, even though I told myself I'd wait for Jasper.

edit: a lot of incorrect information excised

Look for LOT NO: 0834 or higher on the UPC sticker on the box.

I just bought a JP 360 Elite from Play-Asia, although it is a on a 2-weel lead time as they said they order them in on demand.

As I am in the UK I also picked up a UK Spec Elite PSU from ebay (new I am told) for £25 as it was a tenner cheaper than buying a big ass stepdown (which always make the most annoying humming noises).

Also picked up an VGA cable to hook up to a 21" TFT monitor but can't find an official RGB SCART lead anywhere...

Just got my Japanese Xbox 360 in.

It's from Japan alright - the box is covered in Japanese and it says, "For Japan Only" on the back. No Chinese on it, so it's not Asian. Hooray!

Open it up, look at the back. Hmmm.... no HDMI port. Look at the MFG date... November 12.... 2005. Crap.

Now, to actually get a NTSC/J region game, or throw in some region-locked games to make sure they don't work in the meantime.

Any chance Japanese consoles had a lower failure rate? My NTSC/U 360 has frozen on me today... twice. Playing Civilization in 480p, of all things.

Yeah, no surprise there. Failure rate should be the same as any other regions 360s at that time. Which is not very good...but at that price I still think its a damn good deal. Even if it does red ring, hopefully microsoft will service it like strider has seen.[/i]

I called MS' customer service line about this and I was told that MS USA will not service MS Japan consoles. The person on the phone went and asked his supervisor and several others to make sure. Had to wait a few minutes before I got an answer.

The official line is that the warranty is only honored in the country that the console originated from--that is, if you bought a Japanese console, you'd have to get it serviced in Japan.

In any event, $205 shipped for an import 360 is a bargain, and since the warranty isn't valid anyway, you could always pop the sucker open, replace/reseat the heatsink and hope for the best.

Or, if you don't want to fuck around, you could wait for places like Play-Asia and NCS to start importing 360's using the Jasper chipset, which should happen in a few months. The Jasper 360's will likely have extremely low failure rates (Falcons are already within "acceptable" industry standards, IIRC)

Of course, you still need to worry about the shitty DVD drives MS has started using lately.. you just can't win with this console.

Your first mistake is that you called MS and asked. When the RROD hits, you simply give them the serial, ask to retain the console you send them, and they repair it. Search the forums, a few have done this before.

Also, if your disc drive fails, call them and say it red ringed. Just mention that the disc drive was acting strange as well. My friend at work did this and they simply sent him a new console. It worked in one case, at the very least.

Just so people know, the Jasper units have not been spotted in the wild yet. Those reports that came out a few weeks ago were bogus. I'm waiting for that particular model as well.
