Rise of the Robots is good because I personally couldn't program it.

So this will be the only game not in your collection. I understand you spend 100.000 dollars every year getting all console and arcade games that come out.
My F-zero GX + component cable setup wipes Wipeout's ass. Sega baby!

What's this about PSN download?

Well mr baysan, not all of us would want to save our lives if it meant living it as a game programmer.

I took a game programming class one semester. Was in it for about 2 weeks when I realized what I was about to do would totally ruin my life. So I went home, fired up ESP RaDe, played 1 credit, smoked some crack, shat my pants, and took a nap. A feeling of relief overcame me knowing I had made the right choices in my life. Just look at me now, getting paid to post on shmups forum about pantsoiling.

oh and back on topic. megaman 9 looks like the best new game i've seen all year (not by much mind you). thnx for the heads up its coming to PSN. I almost downloaded it on Wii which would have been a waste.

Would be nice for new Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and Super Mario games made in this niche as well. Something to top Mario 3 would be glorious..

For those who don't understand this game's appeal.

For those who do.

The DLC... I would be happier if companies would just stop, and bundle these things into singular expansion upgrades. Instead of huge pick and choose menus. More choices is not always better.

you rock for even knowing these exist. if anything rekindled my love of megaman in general, it was these.

having said that, I've already started listening to the OST of 9. it's very clear Tornado man is gonna get a massive load of remixes, with Galaxy Man and Plug Man followed shortly behind.

First day thoughts: PS3 version seems to play just fine, very nice challenge, perfect music, looks slightly worse than MM6 (except the intro)?

My girlfriend accidentally bought the full version while I was letting her try the demo. After trying it out, I really wish I would have disconnected from Live before handing her the controller.

Typical, eh? If women aren't deleting your saves they're downloading retail versions of games by accident. :P

*literal crap about programming*
i know what you meant by your statement, but making a game isn't all about programming, there's entire teams designing and developing the game, art, music, direction, coding, promo, etc

this isn't a lets work every weekend in our basement or garage production, and to say or imply that is just ignorant. it wasn't the crack smoking cave shmup players i was targeting at this statement, because even the true uninformed "that game takes $1 to make" savants would say cave games look like crap cause of the pixels and they aren't 3d.

meanwhile mm9 has been kicking my ass back to my retro roots.

BOO none of you are calling it Rockman 9 :x

--which is interesting! Download it onto a Japanese 360, and though it says Megaman in the dashboard, it plays in Japanese! :o :o :o

Like Rockman and Forte, the shop is a blessing and a curse... seems it gives them the excuse to put more death traps and stuff since you can just stock up on lives, energy tanks, spike cancel pads, etc. If you think the game's hard wait til you get to the Wily stages. Some pretty cheap stuff there. These achievements are great too... beat the game? 5G! beat the game five times in one day... 20G

@_@

Speaking of 360, really wishing I would have gotten the Wii version so I could use the classic controller. Besides the d-pad... these buttons really aren't good for mashing.

Yes, the game does have a particularly high number of asshole-jumps. But everything can be done without resorting to purchasing stuff at the store.

Some of the achievements are kinda silly (like the one you listed above).. however, some of the in-game challenges are the stuff of TAS replays (beat the game without taking damage).

I've had no problems at all playing this with the stock 360 pad.

You have to jump before jumping or else you'll get Rockman's 1 pixel footflex boostinger special move.

Yeah...some of these jumps are infuriating. Combine that with near-constant spikes and...well...yeah...

That being said, spikes and pits are pointless when you get the appropriate power-ups. Then again, the shop is pointless when you find out that you can farm bolts while taking a nap.

Overall, my opinion has changed. The game is actually becoming fun...though I'm not certain how long that will last. Good thing I had not already flogged my woman for accidentally buying it.

I've been playing this game a good bit lately(that and U GNG KAI- I guess i'm trying to drive myself crazy), and am having the hardest time with it.

I've only been able to to beat Galaxy Man's stage, and am now working on Jewel Man's stage, which is pissing me off to no end with all it's f-ing spikes.

Do the other stages have this many spikes, or is it just kind of this stage?

It's fun otherwise, but the instant deaths with the spikes are making me turn off the game in disgust at times.

Wait until you get to Plug man and the disappearing blocks of doom. Sadly, most stages are littered with the damn things.

Unfortunately, I can't hate the game since the solutions are almost...elegant...when done correctly. Jewel Man stage, for instance, has the last two pendulums. The first you simply walk off of, while the second has to be manipulated.

Oddly enough...the stages remind me of the Challenge levels in Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

Ok after reviewing some of the earlier games I can say that the backgrounds are a bit sparse in places. I DO still feel that this is a great game. I think they had planned it to feel more like MM 2 which explains some of the lack luster graphics in places. But this game is not really about creating a stunning visual expearance, it is about reliving a piece of your younger days and trying to revive the original series. Before they started adding all of these nonsensical characters and game elements.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I don't get the massive shitstorm on the internet over this game's difficulty. I'm in Wiley's castle after 3 and a half hours play, using the bluddy analog stick. It is fairly challenging but it isn't Target Earth challenging.

The same shitstorm people raise over the difficulty of shmups?

I'm going to guess that most complaints are from people who don't have experience with the original games. Once you know any given level it's a cakewalk, bosses are cake with the right weapon, and you even have a handy little shop. That, however, is the "problem". Games these days, largely, don't require memorization. In reality it's no harder than MM2, but most people probably aren't in the proper mindset.

Oh man, Mega Man 2 without the jagged metal krusty-o of doom...

Rockman 2 doesn't have an Easy mode like we had, and in "difficult" some of those guys... :fistshake: Air Man, Wood Man, Crash Man... all nearly invincible vs the mega blaster.

Metal Man is still a chump and gives you vorpal decapitators, but using those would be cheating. As cheaty as E tanks.

Cheaty cheat cheat.

Hey, when Rock Man moves he has a little inertia to him. I didn't notice this in my childhood, but in emulation it feels like his first step takes about three times longer than in MM2. Is the step off fast or slow in 9?

I know its neckbeardy, but that really is probably one of the biggest indicators of quality..
