Despite my love for Cave, Raizing and Psyiko shooters, Amusement Makers' shmups are just brilliant. Samidare is unrelentingly difficult (for me, anyway ) and Bansh takes the Touhou formula and perfects it (although I think I like Touhou music a bit more).

Agreed! After seeing SFKhoa's videos of the extra stage I immediately wanted to get this thing... and finally I could do so last week and put my claws on the RebRank's reprint, which has the latest patch applied (1.52).

Unlock Extra Stage, unleash that beast: you are in for a party that will be hard to forget.

After this game, of course I'm impatiently waiting for RefRain -Prism Memories- the successor of Samidare with an even more pro and sober interface design and great artworks.

It looks, dare I say, even better than Samidare. :!:

IMO, Samidare > Touhou. Mind you, I love Touhou, but Samidare just goes that extra mile.

OP should try Blue Wish Resurrection if he likes Cave shmups, it's very Cave-like.

By the way: do we have a scoreboard for this game?

Hoping RefRain will have a couple more stages. (bosses are already looking incredible)

Samidare was great when I was just starting out and was like "wow this'll take forever for me to clear!"

Then I found out that it was three stages long and lol'd

I don't know if I could put it over Touhou just because it feels like a demo with an extra stage taped on.

With how hard Samidare was, I don't know if many would want it to be much longer.

I wouldn't compare Samidare to Touhou because they're different kinds of shooters. I was comparing Bansh to Touhou.

Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes.

The game rips me a new asshole every time I hop on it (Of course, most every shmup rips me a good one, but that's not the point), but I love these games to death. I can't praise them enough, really.

Eh, Samidare isn't that impossible; half of survival is just using your sheild effectively. Not that I'm any good at it, but hey.

They could have extended it to five stages and made the difficulty curve a little kinder, or even kept making it progressively harder and had one hell of a shooter on their hands. In any case, it's not just the length - there's one ship type to go along with that 10 minute game. I didn't find the scoring system to be very exciting, but that's the kind of thing that I can put aside when I'm still playing for survival.

Thanks! I bumped the scoreboard... Now, time to attempt beating this damn Extra Stage. The final moments are so great.

Just a heads up since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere: The C74 version of Banshiryuu v2.x has an Extra mode now. I unlocked it by clearing Normal mode; the game doesn't care if you use continues. If you have an earlier version of the game, you can download a C74 patch from the developer's site.

Actually I've clocked Samidare in at 17 minutes.

Yeah, so maybe 'desert island' is too strong a term, but I like Samidare quite a bit anyway.

Samidare's great! The only thing I dislike is the mass memorization in EX stage. Apart from that it's really good.
