Best versions (Chaos Field/Psyvariar 2/Shikigami 2)
Best versions (Chaos Field/Psyvariar 2/Shikigami 2)
Has anyone played the multitude of versions of these titles to be in a position to declare which version of each is best? All comments welcome - help me get the best versions!
discused before but here:
chaos field, gamecube version has everything plus the new mode and at least equal or better graphics than the dreamcast version.
shikigami 2, gamecube version has the best graphics otherwise same as the dreamcast and the ps2 version.
psyvariar 2, ps2 has more features than the dreamcast version.
well looks like a general rule: if there is a gc version get this, otherwise get the ps2 version if it has more features, otherwise get the dreamcast version due its crisp graphics.

Thanks for the info. I had expected that all this had been discussed before, but probably on the old (now dead) forum. One point though - I notice you haven't mentioned the XBox versions. How do the XBox versions of Psyvariar 2 and Shiki 2 compare against the other versions? I remember that the XBox got the best version of Shiki 1.

The silence could also be interpreted to mean that the differences are so small and/or insignificant that each version is equally competent to give you a solid gaming experience.bcass wrote:So, there is no unanimous view on which are the best versions? Has no one played each to come to a conclusive decision? I'm not interested in speculation about which version aught to be best, I need hard facts!
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

True, but who buys two or three versions of the same game unless they really, REALLY love it, and even then it makes little sense nowadays when all ports are fairly accurate as opposed to "back then" when R-Type was a wildly different beast depending on whether you're playing in on SMS, PCE or MSX...

Psyvariar-wise, supposedly the DC version is "most authentic," since it's the most "direct" arcade port and lacks a roll button, but the PS2 version has more features and such. XBox version supposedly has some "remixed" stuff in it, but is generally considered the lesser port of the bunch.
Shikigami-wise, again, the DC port is supposed to be most "authentic", but otherwise the versions are apparently more or less identical.
CF-wise, the GC version apparently has more stuff (including a score-save feature! Imagine that!) and (I think) less slowdown, so most would agree to go for that one over the DC version.
Didn't I just make this post a few days ago? Groundhog Day!

Shiki II and Psyvariar 2 on the xbox are basically perfect, as far as ports (I have both). I've played DC psyvariar 2 and I prefer the xbox version because the graphics and sound are identical but the xbox version has some extras (and is much cheaper). I don't know why people are so down on it (most of whom seem to have never even played this version, strangely enough).
I don't really care for either game, however.
I'm just commenting on the port quality here.
