Did you try any of the resistors ?

no, because they are visible in this pic:

But we don't know for sure that this is a Tengai or a Sengoku Ace Ep II. The quality is a bit low.

Back again :D

Thank you Jet Black, now it would be interesting to know why one of the EPROM's has a blue sticker instead of the official one.

Do you have the ability to dump EPROM's Jet Black ?

Oh, I put the blue sticker on the EPROM, because there wasn't one when I have received the board.

No, sorry :(

Jet Black kindly sent his EPROM's to me and I dumped them.

It turns out that the Tengai that he has is the world version :D

It has already been submitted to the appropriate people.

so there is a rom difference?
how does the current mame implementation run both?

Yes there is a ROM difference.

I'm not sure I understand the second question...

I have, it goes from Tengai to Sengoku Blade.

rtw
how does mame do this unless it already has both rom sets?

As pointed out there are region jumpers on the PCB. The current version of MAME just creates a virtual region jumper block.

The jumpers on the PCB are labeled R9, R10 & R11. Most likely they are just jumpers which should either be open or closed. The behaviour of the jumpers is NOT verified.

Could somone take a closeup picture of the afore mentioned R9, R10 & R11 ?

Just verified that R9, R10 & R11 are 0 ohm resistors, modifying these will change the region.

These are equivalent to the "jumper pads" found on later PCB's.

Well I cut R9, R10, and R11 last night and nothing happened. It's still Japanese region.

current versions of mame have two romset for this game: tengai and tengaij. tengai will not run (says it's missing 3 roms, one of which there is no know good dump for it claims). tengaij runs and lets you choose the region under dips. I have no idea what's going on.

rtw, what version board did you find zero ohm resistors on? world? maybe I need to short them instead.

R9, 10 and 11 are 10k Ohm on my Japanese region board.

If someone can verify that they are 0 Ohm "resistors" on a world version I will bridge mine to test.

You need the proper dump for tengai to work in MAME. There is no good dump for the protection micro controller but that does not matter since MAME simulates it.

I was told they were 0 ohm by a fellow collector, I have asked him for verification.

With the kind aid of ShouTime I have now gotten to the bottom of this :D

There are actually 2 PCB versions in circulation: Japan/World

The Japanese one has ROM numbering: 1 2 3 4
The World version has ROM numbering 4 5 6 7

The World version cannot be changed to Sengoku Blade.
The Japanese version can be changed using the secret jumper.

Here is a picture of a Japanese PCB which plays as Tengai.

Notice the solder bridge close to R35 ? If you remove it, the game becomes Sengoku Blade.

So, I hate to bump an old thread, but I'm trying to help solve some sound issues and came across this thread.

I have a Tengai, with ROMs labeled 1 2 3 4, and no solder bridge near R35. What version do I have? Based on the above, it should be a Japanese PCB, but since the bridge isn't there, it should display as Sengoku Blade.

Only way to find out is to dump the EPROMs and post them here for us to analyze.
