R-9 from R-Type II - The wind shield ia very phallic-like!

The Axelay Ship - Very nicely animated ship. You can even notice a small green light flashing on the bottom left of the ship!

Thunder Force III ship - very slick & agile looking.

Rynex & RVR-01-Gauntlet from Thunder Force IV & V - All time favorites

Gaiares Ship - I can't believe no one mentioned this!

Saint Dragon - Not many like this one out there!

Vic Viper - Classic

Ships from AirBuster/AeroBlasters - Especially the yellow one the back tail pointing the oposite way.

R-Gray-01 from RayStorm - This is so cool it looks like a mech!

R-Gray 2 - Aside from a very slick ship design, it comes with continous laser cannons and a lock-on lightning laser.

If I had to choose, I'd say the Endymion Mk.2, from Einhander. I would kill for the privelege of flying that thing...

I mean... it's a ship with an arm. 'nuff said.

I'm also partial to the Charon from R-Type Final, since the Anchor Force DX pulls an Eva Unit 01 (goes berserk and starts chomping like a Pac-man on steroids for several seconds).

The ship from Philosoma was pretty bitchin', too. I still remember the starfighter-turns-into-a-mech cinema.... ^_^

Ikaruga and Silvergun awesomeness goes without saying. XD

One thing about the Gradius V vic viper. What's with the giant missles/gas tanks underneath the wings? I think they're lame.

The ship from Layer Section.. Awesome design.

... and I've always loved the look of the main ship from Phalanx. The glass dome covering the whole front of the ship, with the human's cockpit suspended in the middle of it just looks cool. (Never mind that a crack or a small bullet through the front of the ship would spell instant death. Or the terrible amount of stress on that glass. (It wouldn't work in real life....))

Admittedly, I've found very few ships as visually appealing as the Starfox Arwing. Definitely R-9WF, Ikaruga and Ginkei, and Vic Viper are all close runners-up, though.

Not so much the in-game sprite, but I always thought the angel from Gynoug looked cool as hell on the title screen.
