Review praising Ikaruga, slamming Cave, not Ibara...
http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=402
Interesting article. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but here is a little gem...
'The current pioneers are Cave, whose games are less about shooting than moving as little as possible while avoiding bullets. There’s hardly a shooting game alive these days where the player is ever tempted to not hold down the fire button at all times. In other words, you never pick your shots. There’s never an incentive not to shoot.'

Well, that was the most pretentious and butt kissing review I have ever read for a game. It almost, but not quite, made me like Ikaruga less after reading it. I gawked at how much of the game, and how much of CAVE games, he DIDN'T talk because he was to busy hailing Treasure as gods of gaming. I like Treasure as much as the next guy, but shit...this is just bad.

I agree with Rob though, Icy indeed saved the dayicycalm wrote:How much more fucking pathetic can you possible get?
TrueNot to mention that — graphics, music, story, etc. aside — at the end of the day the only difference between all those thousands of shmups (or fighting games, RTSes, 4X games, etc) are the differences in their systems. Ignoring those differences is essentially the same as ignoring the games.
I guess I need to get readin' thenThere’s nothing like a well-written, insightful review of a masterpiece written by a master. That’s why my Ketsui, Galuda II, Pink Sweets reviews and others are revered in the STG community.
Icy has a problem with the word "possibly." I don't know why, he just does. What good would it possible do me to start reviewing them based off youtube videos and wikipedia articles?
That review bordered on incoherent. It's amazing in its own flowery way.

Flowery as hell. Write a thousand words and let your reader's try to pick out some logical reasoning in amongst the flowers.
Ikaruga is a mainstream release that got a lot of new people interested in the genre.
Ikaruga is a puzzle game, not a shooter.
If you like Ikaruga and want to praise it - that's fine. But don't confuse it with a shoot'em up

Tim Rogers doesn't like Ikaruga, doesn't understand it, can't play it, etc., but Hiroshi Iuchi and FROTHING DEMAND weren't going to namecheck themselves. Can't check any other names you'd need some expertise for that.

Let´s not and say we did.Let’s speak his name. His name is Hiroshi Iuchi. Hiroshi Iuchi. Hiroshi Iuchi.
Tim Rogers is the master of talking about shit that hasn´t anything to do with anything. People who keep describing things with a lot of words usually try to cover the fact that they can´t think in straight, clear terms. I used to like certain reviews from him but nowadays I can´t be arsed to waste my time with self-indulgent drivel like that.

Waaah waaah, you nefffer get tuh pwick your shothfth. I´m glad Icycalm came by to rub this guy´s own shit in his face a little. Even though it probably won´t make a differencehermosaguy wrote: In other words, you never pick your shots. There’s never an incentive not to shoot.'

Just check out the breeding ground called Select Button forums, take a look at what the first sticky topic is, see how many pages it has and you´ll know all you need to know about what kind of people are writing and reading this stuff.

golly, what a
horribly ugly
site that is. The
color scheme
(or lack thereof)
is one thing, but
one thing I've
never EVER
understood
(and probably)
never will) is
why they make
the text take
up only a very
small portion
of the available
screen space,
leaving HUGE
black bars on
either side
(which are
larger than the
space taken
up by actual
text).
Dear website
designers, the
nineties are
over. This
means two
things: One,
that there is
no more time
for Klax, and
two, people
have screen
resolutions
higher than
640x480.
Additionally,
it is not hard
to make tables
that adjust
automatically
proportionate
to the screen
width. I'm
done reading
silly blogs that
can't even
comprehend
that simple
concept.

You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
Klax
Sounds like some anti-political group. We from Klax......
Saw an original cab for sale the other day, I passed, the game is actually just like puyo puyo, isn't it?
well, sort of. Never really liked the game. you see the tiles wobbling over to you, but those animations don't contribute/do anything for the game.

I've never seen so many scene kids congregate in one place in my entire lifeFrederikJurk wrote:Just check out the breeding ground called Select Button forums, take a look at what the first sticky topic is, see how many pages it has and you´ll know all you need to know about what kind of people are writing and reading this stuff.

Quote of the day (or the week if you prefer). While you can ignore the chaining and play through the game... do people forget that if you play the game for the 1cc in anything other than Easy you pretty much HAVE to chain and rack up a lot of points to reach that much needed, glorious and precious word?:MR_Soren wrote:"There will always be somebody writing something ignorant on the internet."
EXTEND
It's not an easy task to reach the end in Normal (hell if I've been trying!) so I know if I don't score big and earn those extends I'm not gonna make it to the Ubusunagami Oukinoukai.
(All of the above with the default settings of lives and credits of course.)
It's like ignoring chaining in DoDonPachi. You can try to play the game without the anal chaining and the 2x for keeping all the bombs but survival is also tied to scoring well... and you are really gonna need those lives and the bombs that come with them if you are attempting a 1cc for the first time.
Let's not even mention the requirements for Hibachi, the quintessence of a TLB.

NOW REACHES THE FATAL ATTRACTION BE DESCRIBED AS "HELLSINKER". DECIDE DESTINATION.
