What's your favourite maze shooter?
Are we allowed to discuss this here?
For me it's Sega's Pulsar. Fast, thight and with autofire. When I was younger I was playing this maze shooter where the enemies would metamorphize into something else when shot. You had to shoot them 3 or 4 times to make them disappear. The music was the theme from Bluesbrothers (aka the theme from Peter Gunn) if I remember correctly. Anyone know this game. I would imagine it to be American made.

Yes. This game is fucking awesome. The use of real line-of-sight adds a lot of tension to the game. The mazes are well laid out and the action is frantic. If I were to own an arcade machine, I would want it to be this.ROBOTRON wrote:Maze shooter? ....uh I guess Wizard of Wor.

Or, Xybots is pretty great too. It's a 3D maze and one of the early games to utilize cover and strafing in a very modern way.
And both are available on Midway Arcade Treasures 2.

It was included on the second midway arcade treasures collection, if I remember right. Still awesome.

That reminds me of...what does that remind me of? The Atari Tank game (solid state), maybe.sven666 wrote:kinda borderliner i guess but Firepower for the Amiga was incredibly fun in 2 player..

Although they aren't 2D, I would mention Spectre V.R. (not as good as I remembered it) and Geograph Seal / Jumping Flash.

Battle City for the NES. The two player battles were awesome.

I kinda hate that game. Namco did an arcade version as well, which I find somewhat playable due to the OMG GRAFIX, but really mainly due to all the various powerup options and whatnot.spongdangly wrote:Battle City for the NES. The two player battles were awesome.

I had totally forgotten Tank Battalion -I have fond memories playing it as a kid on my pirate-fanicom (Hi-tex).
Such an awesome lil' game. Namco needs to make a DS sequel.
Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.

I had no idea there was an NES version of this game. I need to keep my eyes open for a copy. There are also about a thousand freeware PC clones of Tank Battalion if anyone is fiending to play it this intant.spongdangly wrote:Battle City for the NES. The two player battles were awesome.

I had the game when I was a kid on my 31-in-1 cartridge. I enjoyed every game on it except Five Chess.Andi wrote:I had no idea there was an NES version of this game.
