What's your favourite maze shooter?

Post by 320x240 »

Are we allowed to discuss this here?

For me it's Sega's Pulsar. Fast, thight and with autofire. When I was younger I was playing this maze shooter where the enemies would metamorphize into something else when shot. You had to shoot them 3 or 4 times to make them disappear. The music was the theme from Bluesbrothers (aka the theme from Peter Gunn) if I remember correctly. Anyone know this game. I would imagine it to be American made.

Yes. This game is fucking awesome. The use of real line-of-sight adds a lot of tension to the game. The mazes are well laid out and the action is frantic. If I were to own an arcade machine, I would want it to be this.

Or, Xybots is pretty great too. It's a 3D maze and one of the early games to utilize cover and strafing in a very modern way.

And both are available on Midway Arcade Treasures 2.

Fuck yeah! I used to play that for Atari all the damn time. Awesome game.

It was included on the second midway arcade treasures collection, if I remember right. Still awesome.

That reminds me of...what does that remind me of? The Atari Tank game (solid state), maybe.

Although they aren't 2D, I would mention Spectre V.R. (not as good as I remembered it) and Geograph Seal / Jumping Flash.

I kinda hate that game. Namco did an arcade version as well, which I find somewhat playable due to the OMG GRAFIX, but really mainly due to all the various powerup options and whatnot.

I guess if there is such a thing as a maze shooter I will have to make one of my own. I could mix some sort of danmaku with a maze shooter. Ofcourse there would have to be quite wide passages.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Star Maze for the ][+. Probably one of the last five games I was innocent enough to buy instead of copy.

I wonder if there was ever anything like it.

I had the game when I was a kid on my 31-in-1 cartridge. I enjoyed every game on it except Five Chess.

It even had sweet menu music: link
