this game is so brutal. i want to sell it cause i absolutely suck at it, but at the same time i want to show it who's boss. it's on the rainy day pile now until i get bored of third strike again and flip my NAC back to tate.

It's a bad port but it's still very playable at least. Much better than crap like the 360 port of Ikaruga.

kernow... sounds familiar. Used to post on a certain site?

No I haven't played the original, haven't got in to buying shmup boards. What's so bad about it?

hi weevus, please don't open up this can of malicious worms... the complaints about the ibara port are meticulously documented elsewhere on this board, use the search function to find them if you care to know*...in the meanwhile just enjoy the game!

...oh, and welcome to the forum btw! :)

*looking that stuff up is educational but may also ruin your experience of the game... ignorance is bliss, i guess.

drab blurry upscaling/filtering mostly. the PCB game looks a whole lot sharper. gameplay-wise it's mostly fine though. oh and the arrange mode inspired Ibara Black Label, which blows the PS2 arrange mode out of the water. so the PS2 game is pretty great, just don't go comparing it to either of the PCBs.

This thread seems like a good opportunity for me to ask: what the hell makes Ibara BL so much better than the PS2 port Arrange Mode? Last time I asked, the answer I got was basically "both are Ibara with typical Cave elements, but they're different". And that didn't really explain anything. :?

Damn right about the ignorance is bliss part. The sad part is I really was enjoying the game until I read into it. Now I can't it doesn't have the same appeal as when I first got it.

without getting carried away with myself. black label has a score system which encourages both bullet grazing and playing on the highest rank. its really fucking intense. probably the most intense shooter I've ever played. I'd probably go as far as to say its my favorite Cave game.

hopefully someone else can post more, but since there probably aren't too many peoples who have played the game I can try to elaborate when I get off work if you request.

Thanks a lot, jpj and Alec. That was really helpful. :D

But it must be freaking insane to play on maximum rank for score in Ibara. hell, playing on maximum rank just for staying alive for more than ten seconds already is.

man sucking at a shooter is a great stage to be at because you can see progression more frequently , its the rediculous challenge of shmups thats addictive i find , makes the feeling of achievement that much more .

I like Arrange mode way better than BL but I guess that's just me. I don't get a hard on for grazing bullets and I prefer the whole play between constantly jacking up and cashing in on your rank.

QFT

and unless you have a modded/softmodded ps2 that can run the game with rekless' hex fix this is unplayable on PS2.....

the PCB is stunning.....the graphics are razor sharp, the colors are very vivid....but i dont especially like games with rank or medal chaining......i get raped...

my biggest complaint tho is the fact that there are several points where you can barely see the bullets because the bullet color is almost the same as the background....the blue triangle pattern on the first boss is a good example...almost always get smoked by the first wave of it cuz i dont see it......

i mean honestly..... light blue bullets with ever so slightly darker blue water as the background......come on cave....gimme a chance

i will stick to ikeda's games for now......

Run it in Extended mode, it makes those bullets red instead of blue.

Although to be honest I've never actually had much trouble with seeing bullets in this game, not like Battle Garegga or anything. I have a lot more trouble with the enemy burners and random popcorn ships running into me.

For Weevus,

If you really want to play Ibara as it was meant to be, get a PCB kit. Your eyes will not be able to thank you enough compared to the current blurry/filtered plagued Cave/Taito PS2 port of the same name. A simple Supergun setup + analog low-res 15.7 kHz RGB monitor + Ibara PCB Kit = priceless. ^_~

Now if Cave had done their homework properly from the get-go with the port of Ibara as they did with their amazing PS2 ports of DDP-DOJ & ESPgaluda, it wouldn't have that current situation of a blurry & filtered mess. If you can only afford the PS2 port for now, then more power to you. Get a sample taste of the real deal that is the Ibara PCB iteration and you'll quickly ditch that PS2 port in a flash.

Plan on spending upwards of $270.00-$330.00 USD price range for such a brand new Ibara PCB kit is the norm these days. Of course, by picking up such an Ibara "Black Label" variant PCB, then you'd have the option of playing the original or BL version at your leisure. Be prepared to spend such a pretty penny for one, indeed.

the arika ports(dai ou jou, ESPgaluda) were much better and more true to the PCB

No, Ibara Black Label does not include the original Ibara.
