They also mention that the player does not lose a single life. But they might just see that it's a master play and assume that is the case. They probably don't even realize the DVD is for the arcade version of the game.Kiken wrote:NCSX just opened up pre-orders as well for $54 US (and yes, they talk about how it inludes the Super Play DVD).

They've made mistakes on their little speils about the content of Super Play DVDs before. The main point is that they state that it is included with the purchase of the game.MrMonkeyMan wrote:They also mention that the player does not lose a single life. Official site is open. Actually it's been open since May, but I only just caught it on newStage.

Cos the screen size is not conducive to properly playing shmups.sfried wrote:Is it because its still Boss Fights only?Skykid wrote:This is probably going to blow goats.

That's not a problem, they're entitled to disagree with me.MR_Soren wrote:I would assume that everybody who's looking forward to the game disagrees with you.Skykid wrote:Cos the screen size is not conducive to properly playing shmups.sfried wrote:Is it because its still Boss Fights only?
But unless the designers tinker with the original design, I can't see it being a fair play. After playing progear and others on my PSP, I've concluded that it's just too small to properly learn the game - at least not without unnecessary frustrations. The DS screen is roughly half the size.
But I want it to be as good as the rest of you do, I'm just trying to be realistic.

Ketsui Death Label was completely re-worked for the DS. It is not a port of Arcade Ketsui, it is a new DS game that happens to be called Ketsui and shares some similarities with an arcade game by the same name. The point of doing this was to ensure that it doesn't suck. Arika's usually pretty good at accomplishing what they set out to do, so I think they can make something fun.Skykid wrote:That's not a problem, they're entitled to disagree with me.MR_Soren wrote:I would assume that everybody who's looking forward to the game disagrees with you.Skykid wrote: Cos the screen size is not conducive to properly playing shmups.

Ah, admittedly I watched this thread at the beginning, but missed that info on the way. I knew it was death label, but assumed it was a direct port.MR_Soren wrote:Ketsui Death Label was completely re-worked for the DS. In that case there's hope! As long as there's nothing too complex for the screen size, it could work. Fingers crossed.

Great, sounding better all the time. Arika may be able to actually make the DS's first ever proper danmaku.MX7 wrote:The main changes that I recall is the bullet patterns have been slowed down to facilitate the smaller screen size, and, most importantly, have been modified in order that the DS's crappiness at performing diagonals does not become a problem

Progear has pretty small bullet sprites and an overall weird graphical feeling to it to begin with (IMHO), so I can see that playing that on the PSP can be painful. Everything in Ketsui DL looks clearly visible thanks to the "chunky" bullets, so visibility won´t be a big issue the way I see it (at least if you´re used to the DSes screen).
For those who STILL haven´t seen it yet:

Keeping the obvious limitations in mind, I still think it looks awesome for what it is. And it´s not like Arika is just any developer. I´m sure Mihara will do an excellent job. And three dificulty modes adds to the package. And I don´t really mind it just being a boss rush, seeing that the Ketsui bosses are some of the most thrilling ones in the whole history of shmups.

the DS d-pad is gonna take some getting used to
regarding the difficulty, the producer mihara has said that there will be quite a few different difficulty settings to choose from. the easiest of which will mean that (and i quote) even a woman can play it

The D-pad is indeed crap on the Lite, but I eventually got used to it with Contra 4. The trick to get accuracy is to just grind the fucker into the face of the console, but I always feel like I'm going to break it. But fuck it, preordered already on this one. Who can pass up a portable Cave game? Even it's just a boss rush mode, it's still leagues better than Nanostray.

A rather foolish thing to say, considering Dame K.K. is one of the more insanely talented players around.regarding the difficulty, the producer mihara has said that there will be quite a few different difficulty settings to choose from. the easiest of which will mean that (and i quote) even a woman can play it

I had the exact same feeling on my old DSlite, then sold it and got a new one. It´s world better. Still far from perfect, but at least it does diagonals without only working 20% of the time. Maybe it´s a problem of the older models (I got my first one on day the release day).8 1/2 wrote:The D-pad is indeed crap on the Lite, but I eventually got used to it with Contra 4. I have a pretty new one, only got it about four months ago (crimson and black one). I just had a hell of a time jumping and shooting diagonally in Contra 4 for the longest time, then got over my new system jitters and just starting grinding on it. I'm more a "hover and tap" player than a "thumb always on the pad" player if that makes any sense. It's a lot like the adjustment that I had to make with the Ascii FT pad for the DC with its craptactular D-pad.FrederikJurk wrote:I had the exact same feeling on my old DSlite, then sold it and got a new one. Unfortunately, the crappy d-pads don't seem to be related to older or newer DSs. Whether you get a good one is down to pure luck.FrederikJurk wrote:I had the exact same feeling on my old DSlite, then sold it and got a new one. It´s world better. I'm on my third Lite now and the d-pads were:
1) excellent
2) unusable
3) somewhat okay-ish, but not as good as on my first one
Either something is fucked up in the manufacturing process itself, so it produces those vast differences, or they've got multiple manufacturing facilities some of which are unable to build decent d-pads.

He also uses 木村圭 (Kimura Kei, or something like that) for other places. Also, he likes playing Perfect Cherry Blossom as Reimu-B.Zebra Airforce wrote:Oh, yeah? In that case that's a pretty hilarious name.

That must be it then. What about the serial number? Mine is UEM 11100966. Maybe the letter indicate the factory? Stuff like this is really bothering me. Knowing that there are DSLites out there that have "excellent" d-pad (and I trust your judgement, the one I have is okay but far from excellent) really bugs me in regards of this game.Herr Schatten wrote: Either something is fucked up in the manufacturing process itself, so it produces those vast differences, or they've got multiple manufacturing facilities some of which are unable to build decent d-pads.
I also wonder if those different manufacturing models have other issues, like the likeliness of the screen hinges to break. I remember reading about DS Lites having different types of touch screen surfaces, so these differences exist for a fact.
