Question about no missing
So I know in most shmups no missing is not dieing. But what about shmups that have a shield system?
In Demolition Gunner there's a power up that adds a shield and once collected two more times the player can take up to two hits without dieing.
So if the player is hit while having a shield, does it still count as a no miss?

It depends on the player (if you're a perfectionist, you probably won't count being hit once or twice as a no-miss even though you didn't lose any lives)... and on the game itself (if it gives you some kind of bonus at the end of the levels even though you were hit, that might count as a no-miss).
At least I think that way.

For one example, Thunder Force IV will still award the "No Miss Bonus" regardless of how many shields you go through, as long as you don't die.

The name of the game is no hit. Doesn't mean it's not going to happen.I don't get why anyone who tries to do a "no hit"(including shield) in Gradius would even "use"(make) the shield.

No-miss = no-death is pretty much the standard. VP1 is just being different.Michaelm wrote:In Viper Phase 1 1st Level no-miss does mean no miss and not no death.
I've played that enough to know by now.
Maybe there's no real standard for this ?!?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
