Yeah, we've already discussed the possibility of the 20k+ hit chain on 2-5, considering the dramatic increase in amount of bullets you can hyper on. Adding to that the post-boss medal bonus and the increased hit point value at the 2nd loop, a 999 billion counterstop doesn't seem THAT unrealistic at all, heh. And if that ever happens, that would be the biggest facepalm in Cave's entire development history.

I thought this screw up already was. But yeah, if after the 'fix' people counterstop the game again, then it will be hilarious.And if that ever happens, that would be the biggest facepalm in Cave's entire development history.
Cave will close it doors in the next 2 years and half of the shmups forum members will commit suicide.

More like, it is an excuse for making the counterstop, but I don't see how it is any fair to the players challenging for the top score. That being said, the max chain in 1-5 so far is 16724 hits, more than 1/3 of which is done via bullet-canceling. With a more tightly optimized hyper route, that can possibly go over 17k. And there are almost twice more bullets in 2-5 than there is in 1-5, meaning even the same route can likely bring it well over 20k. But that's kinda beside the point. What Cave should have done in the first place is: run a test by making the player character invincible to bullets and just full-chaining each stage. It's such a simple procedure actually, I'm not sure how did they not think of that. It's obvious that survival is an overcomeable obstacle.

Rest assured, these games are meticulously coded, and the more complex the scoring is, the harder it is to test. Of course there was beta testing... but something ALWAYS slips through the cracks. Of course the game is good. But this time there's more than that.
I really prefer a thread where people critically expose a fault of the game mechanics with a depth no one could really achieve (I bet you find a similar thread about a shmups in non-smups related boards) rather than a bunch of pages with people saying omg this is good omg excellent omg great game omg I've ordered it omg have you seen the marquee in the complete kit omg teh boobs, look at teh boobs... and so on.
