Raiden Fighters Compilation heading to the Xbox 360
question:
i dont have a japanese X360... actually, im still thinkin on adquiring a X360, and my best chances (in case i decide to buy one) is to get an american one...
so, do you guys think that if i happened to mod that american X360, will i be able to play this one on it?... cuz if so, i might buy one, mod it, and hope to import ketsui when the time comes!...

Thanks for that link. As soon as I am able, I want to double check, but I'm confident I must have the same one as you-- I got mine from P-A pretty recently.EOJ wrote:@prof G: yeah, I got a new Arcade model a few weeks ago, manufactured in 2/2008. If you mod it, when you take it online they will find out and ban you from live. So no leaderboards or anything.Kaspal wrote:so, do you guys think that if i happened to mod that american X360, will i be able to play this one on it?... cuz if so, i might buy one, mod it, and hope to import ketsui when the time comes!...

Does the fact that Jap 360 shmups are being region-locked indicate that they were/are being considered for a Western release ??
I only ask because I've seen region-free copies of Senko no Ronde from Eastern sellers on ebay and that game did get released in USA/UK.
And maybe I've answered my own question . . .

Shoot, dodge, collect . . .it's the ONLY way to be !!
the region lockin for game SUX!!!... i mean, in the DVDs and shit, its ok (barely), since if i really wanna watch an asian only released movie, theres always ways of "unlockin'em", but with games is just and plain silly... actually, everykind of region lockin its silly from my POV.
i mean, they're lookin to sell their stuff right?... so in the end, it doesnt really matter (for us) if the movie or game was released here or in japan, since we can always import or whatever... but from their pov it doesnt work like that, so, basically, ewe're screwed.
call me back when theres a homebrew mame for the console, im all in then... for now, i dont think so (importing a jap. console its a no-no for me, thats why i modded my PS2, to avoid importing a jap. console).

Yeah I know it sucks but please get real. The problem is that each region has different legislation and approval processes for game media which is time consuming and costly to go through .... and that's only part of the story. Making releases for different regions would also require localisation which means more development time as well as having to go through the whole quality assurance and testing procedures again for each region. Again very time consuming and costly. If said title isn't anticipated to make enough of a return in that region to make the whole process profitable then why would any sane minded business do it?

while all you said its totally true, i'd like to disgress some:Motorherp wrote:Yeah I know it sucks but please get real. the legislation and all that shit its true ... but still, why region lockin the game?... leave it to the customers if they want to import the game they want or not...
most of the time, we play japanese games, for whatever reason, and we have to import it, or pirate it, or whatever, but we TAKE our chances there, no laws, legislations nor shit involved, we just want to play the damn games.
they can still sell the game in certain market w/o region lockin the game, so no localizations, QA nor other stuff involved... now, if they plan to release the game in another market, cool, do what its needed to do so, but again, for me, theres no real need of region lockin... wether you're plannin on releasin in different markets or not.
in my case, i happened to study japanese, cuz i wanted to understand the games i played the most... doujin (shmup) games and Nihon Falcom J-RPGs (like the Ys saga, Eiyuu Densetsu saga, or more recently, Genso Sangokushi saga), and with those, even tho they're for the japanese market only, i happen to import them, just to enjoy them... like i said, i take my chances there, cuz all i want is to enjoy the games i like.
some games doesnt make it out of the japanese (or whatever) market, and some of those are pretty good... why forbiddin ppl of playin them with the region locks?, after all, if they buy their copy, its more income for the devs, producers, distributors and so on... right?
Just bought a Japanese Xbox 360 Arcade edition with memory unit and RFA!
I've recovered my european Gamertag with the NTSC-J 360 via live onto my memory unit. Now I've gained 10G from RFA.
What will happend if I want to connect with my european Console ? Do I have the gamerscore there? Do I see that I've played the RFA game ?

yea I think it should, actually I'd expect that if you have your gamertag on a memory unit, you should be able to sign in with that gamertag on any console (by using the MU)RuffNEC wrote:Just bought a Japanese Xbox 360 Arcade edition with memory unit and RFA!

Try it and see what happens, I know I'm able to download demos on friend's consoles by just bringing my memory unit and signing into my profile on their console. I'm not sure if it would be different between regions, but I don't see why it would be. Also, you can put the HDD on any console, I don't know if any region information is stored on it but you could try plugging it into your JPN region console, I've done this before with no problems on same-region consoles (signing in and downloading to hdd on a different console with no special steps).

Well I have the profile now on the Memory Unit. You can't copy a profile just move.
I think the marketplace informations are saved on the hdd(memory unit) itself and can't be copied or moved so there is no need to swap hdd for playing imported japanese games.
@hermosaguy
did you bought a new ARCADE Edition with HDMI out? or an older one? how much did you play with it? which games?

It lasted me a good 3 years, so no HDMI. I ran it into the ground, since Halo 2 and Halo 3 weren't region locked. I'm not sure if I can get it fixed in the states (still not sure what the final answer was on that thread) so I'll have a guy here in L.A. do it for $40. Keeping my fingers crossed...RuffNEC wrote:Well I have the profile now on the Memory Unit. You can't copy a profile just move.

well RFA has indeed some bugs. Success is about to fix them and release a patch for the game as it was mentioned in their blog in early may.burnsro wrote:Hm. I've had games freeze on me before on the 360 like DOA4 and Lost Planet. swapping hard drives is the last thing you want to do with microsofts DRM set-up. it locks all your xbla games so that you can only play them if you are currently connected to the internet (for license authentication purposes). might not seem like a big deal, but you'll be pissed when your internet drops off for a moment while you're in the middle of setting the new world record in geometry wars.E. Randy Dupre wrote:Could you not just try it and find out?
Swapping the HDD doesn't take any more physical energy than swapping a memory card over. I'd imagine that's how everybody else here is doing things.
saving profile to memory card seems to be the best bet.

That's only true if you try playing them offline on the console that you didn't originally download them through. Plug the HDD back into the original console and you can play them fine, online or offline. So that's the simple answer to that problem - only download and play XBLA games through your original, non-JPN machine.brokenhalo wrote:swapping hard drives is the last thing you want to do with microsofts DRM set-up. it locks all your xbla games so that you can only play them if you are currently connected to the internet (for license authentication purposes). might not seem like a big deal, but you'll be pissed when your internet drops off for a moment while you're in the middle of setting the new world record in geometry wars.
The Sega releases and THE are a different matter, presumably because the teams responsible fucked up the implementation of the DRM stuff in those cases. They're the exception, though, and MS have said that there'll be a fix to sort out DRM issues within the next system update.
