SNES imports...

Post by Guest »

Does anybody happen to have a complete list of SNES(Super Famicom) games that were ONLY released in Japan?

I managed to cut those two stupid gray tabs out of the inside of my SNES. It's a Super Famicom now :)

Go to Digitpress.com and go to the 'online rarity guide'
Select from NON-US releases, and obviously select SNES as well.

It will also give you games that weren't exclusive to Japan, so you'll have to sort through it a bit.
Knowing Digital Press, it won't quite be complete either, but it's a start...and the best I can think of given the meager google results and unorganized SNES master lists.

Hope this helps, and good hunting ;)

Please. Super Fami's are so much sexier than SNES with its gh3y purple buttons :P

Anyways, Umihara Kawase was Japan only and is excellent. Dunno why you've posted this in shmups chat unless you're looking for jp SNES shmups, but more likely greater thread exposure :P a fairly (or it should be) complete list is at shmups.com under Xenofiles.

The SNES has some really good shmups, but it doesn't have many of 'em, even in Japan. May I suggest a Mega Drive or PC-Engine for your 16-bit Japan-only shmups?

Why? You're ignoring the fact that the SNES is easier to import for than either of these two systems since the Genesis has only a few shmups worth importing (most of the good stuff came to the US) and not many cheap ones, the PC-Engine import adapters are expensive, and the SNES is very easy to mod for imports (However, the PCE CD is a bit easier to import for since that doesn't have region protection, though some of the games for it are expensive). Pop 'n Twinbee is definatly worth importing, though it's not Japan only. There are also Macross Scramble Valkyrie, Cotton 100%, Cosmo Gang the shooting, and the Parodius games (one or two of these are definatly available in Europe), all of which I heard good things about. None of those will cost over 100 dollars like certain Mega Drive/Genesis imports either. I got Pop 'n Twinbee for about 20 dollars.

However, if you stick to shmups for SNES importing, you're missing out on great stuff like Ganbare Goemon: Kirakira Dochuu, which is an extremely crazy game that is a ton of fun to play, even if you don't know any Japanese (though some areas will trip you up if you don't know Japanese, it is very possible to beat the game 100% without knowledge of Japanese). This game has some cool mini games, including a remake of a classic shmup, Time Pilot.

I guess I'm turning into an import junkie lately. It's nice being able to get Rockman X3 for $15 as opposed to laying out $100 for the US version.

Ah well...I think the whole Region lockout thing is pretty dumb anyway, what's the point of it. I can only think that it was originally designed to slow down the rate of software priacy by controlling regional distribution, or something.

A wise decision. If you want the best games out there, you'd better start importing fast.

I did the same with Rockman X3, and X2. I also bought the Saturn version of X3 for only $25 + shipping, which is a great port with some cool anime cutscenes. But I still prefer the soundtrack in the original SFC/SNES version.

Yeah, All 3 Japanese Rockman X's are cheaper, though I did manage to cop a US X2 for $27, not too bad but not great. I don't think it's really worth all that much...hell, Mega Man X3 isn't even worth that much, it's because people bid like idiots that the game sells for so high on ebay. I wouldn't say the game is worth any more than about $30-$40 at most, screw this used copy selling for $100 shit. Damn ebay n00bz, they can have it for that price. The Japanese Rock X's are obviously a much better investment, as the games are essentially identical, save for the really bad Engrish...you got to love "Explose Horneck", "Frost Buffalio", and a variety of other Japanglish names, some I can't really make out.

I recently bought Rockman 7 for my SFC, complete and in excellent condition, for $14 + shipping. I was gonna bid on the SNES version on eBay, but the price was just too freaking high. I think it got up to $34, and it was only on the 5 day of a 7 day auction. I'm glad I passed.

I heard a rumor that Capcom might be releasing a Megaman X Collection for the GC and PS2 in the near future. That would be nice. 8)

It's true. Go read over E3 news at ... ehh, there's a million sites covering it. Pick one or head to google.

Nice...I managed to get my US MM7 for $19, also not too bad but not great. Again, Mega Man 7, X3, etc aren't necessarily extremely rare or anything, it's just that it never fails - every time an X3 goes on ebay, some retarded 13 year old always comes along and says OMG MEGAH MAN X3 LOOOOOOOOOOOL TIS GAEM IS TEH RARIST OF EVAR I WIL BID $50000000000000000000000!!!!111111111111

Multiply that by about 5 or 6 bidders and you've got a 100% guarantee that every SNES Mega Man auction goes to shit.

I've also heard the rumor about the Mega Man X collection...I don't know if it's actually been confirmed by Capcom, or just a rumor created from wishful thinking by fans after the Mega Man Anniversary Collection came out. If they do come out with it, it'll likely only include X-X6, as X7 and X8 are both on PS2 and fairly recent, though I wouldn't be suprised if they included a few extra/hidden games.

EB lists it, though that's not saying much. Apparently only through X6.

Anyone want to tell me why X3 is supposed to be so friggin rare?

Yeah, I researched it a bit, apparently it will include X-X6 and some Mega Man Chase game that was never released in America...interesting.

It's not. What I was driving at is that people bid ridiculous amounts of money on it, while knowing little or nothing about it. Mega Man 5 and 6 used to sell for ridiculous amounts of money also, but lately the price on those two seems to have gone down a bit.

Did I ever tell you about the time a loose copy of TMNT Tournament Fighters for NES went for $37 on ebay? People are like obsessed with that game or something.

yeah, and also because they both suck. Cell-shaded graphics and Megaman do not go together, IMO. Both X7 and X8 were very dissapointing to me.

Yeah, I'd like that alot. I thought it was a great idea for Capcom to release those Power Battle arcade games for the MM Anniversary. Only thing that sucks is that they aren't playable right off the back. I gave up on trying to unlock them. Those old school MM games kick my ass. But I really need to get the PS2 version for it's better button arrangement.

MegaMan X3 was released in the twilight years of the SNES.
Thusly not too many copies were produced.

It's not common, but it's also not rare enough to warrant the $300+ price tags.

True...though why is the japanese version so cheap? They must have only printed a limit quantity on the US version.

I also was not thoroughly impressed by Mega Man X7 or X8. I really hate it when they take an entirely 2D game franchise and try to make it 3D. Also, From X4 on the series started to get too anime-ish/completely stupid. The boss names just became more and more crappy and senseless from there on out.

Is MegaMan X8 completly in 3D like X7?
I thought only a few scenes were 3D & most were 2D?

X8 is like a hybrid of 2D and 3D. It's still not that great though.

I've completed all the X series except X7 & X8. So I guess I shouldn't bother with them?

I'd rent them first if I were you. You may be dissapointed, as I was.
