How fitting that my friend and I just finished playing a good 2 1/2 hours of Saturn Bomberman.

If my Saturn ever gets here, my PS2 may be spending some time in the closet.

Excellent, one of my fave consoles by far. Glad it's massive staple of Jap shooters, excellent titles and fan following have outlived its past. I have been playing a lot of Batsugun the past month, after I finally 1CC it I am gonna borrow Panzer Dragoon from a friend again. Is Burning Rangers worth owning? I hear it's good but very short.

great even though i replaced my american system with a sexier japanese model. not sure where the Saturn places in my "most used" console list, but it is by far the favorite.

Absolutely not.

I haven't played my Saturn in a few days, all my shit is packed up to move back home...I don't typically celebrate the birthdays of pieces of hardware, thoe :P

I usually celebrate the anniversary of the end of the world (as foretold in Crystalis on the NES; October 1st, 1997)

I'm seeing this thread a day late, but uhh... *fires party popper thingie*

You must be talking about the US Rev 2 Saturn. the US Rev 1 saturn was oh-so-sexy.. i can't stand those huge ass round buttons on the Rev 2 :( I also don't much care for the white color of my japanese saturns. I should have picked up the skeletal one when I had the chance.

*sha-da-da....* nah, forget it, I already spent this one.

Come to think of it, it's been around a year since I bought my own Saturn...hopefully I'll be able to celebrate by finally being able to play stuff in tate when my RGB cable arrives. :)

Where are you getting your cables from? All I've got are composite cables (which aren't that bad normally but kinda blow when I'm trying to capture video) :(

From member "matt" on this forum, he's made similar cables for others here too, I believe. Try PMing him and see if he's able to make one for you.

I wouldn't recommend a US rev 1 Saturn (with the non-round buttons on the console). The first generation lasers had a very high failure rate - and were replaced with better lasers in the US 2nd edition. Much like the 2nd edition US Saturn pads (roughly equivilent to the amazing Japanese Saturn pads), the 2nd edition US console is the one to seek out (assuming you want a US console... though changing it to a Japanese console is trivial: a converter cart works great as does a simple cut and jumper on the main board).

Ah! I missed this... and I thought that I should post, since the Saturn was my first new store-bought console. 8)

Happy 10th!

(It's funny, because I felt as though the 11th was special for some reason, but couldn't figure out why. I don't think that I knew that it was the Saturn's birthday, though. Maybe I did? Now, I'll remember!)

I never knew about those problems with the lasers, but I guess any info on them at the time was drowned out by the Playstation's hardware problems. As much as I liked the layout of the japanese saturn pads, I never much cared for the color. Thank god those US Rev2 Saturn Pads came out...

on a sidenote, it was my love for the design of the japanese saturn pad that lead me to my first unfortunate experience with Mad Katz.. they had a saturn pad out that was just like the japanese style but black and it was cheaper than the xbox controller that the Saturn initially shipped with, so i decided to pick it up so that me and my friends could play Virtua Fighter 2 together. That worthless piece of shit pad was dead within a month (like pretty much all Mad Katz hardware, it seems) :( Still have the original pad that came with my Saturn though and it works well when it's needed (which is normally only during large Saturn Bomberman games)

US model 1 systems look weird, the face design is very unpleasant.. i didn't even know that they had different hardware revisions in the states.
I have no sig whatsoever.

Yep... like 5 years ago! The SNES turns 15 on November 21 (born in 1990).

Best ever console? Thats a bit controversial.

But please, lets not mass debate about the Saturn.

The PS1 should be turning 10 this year. :D

But, even though I don't own one, the Saturn is a great console that's done a lot for the genre we all love on here. I'm just not into import shmupping anymore; after I get a Cube, I think I'll be done with it for good.

I've heard that Burning Rangers is great, but I've also heard that it's best played with the Saturn 3D controller. Anyway, it was done by Sonic Team, so it couldn't be that bad.

Sonic Adventure was a return to form. SA2 a major misstep and Sonic Heroes was falling down the stairs, but there was that moment.

Eh...

The Sonic levels were okay (though not as good as I remember... I went through it again a couple weeks ago and they're really not that interesting anymore), but the rest of the game (Big, the adventure areas, etc) ranged from mediocre to awful.

It was easy to overlook the flaws when it came out, but it hasn't aged very well.
