Watched the video bit by bit on my breaks at work, yesterday. Lovely graphics and it seems to retain the DDP feeling nicely, but the bosses are horribly uninspired. I remember playing DDP and being shocked/excited every time I got to a new boss because they were all quite different. This one just didn't grab me at all.

they're all just loli's
but the design isnt sooo bad to me.
Sure the secred ddp-midbosses are much cooler
Cave bosses in general have been going downhill in the graphics department since the days of DDP. They really need to fire whoever does the 3d modeling for them.

?
they look awesome in doj (not really worse than in ddp or so), and the ddp4 bosses are also just a matter of taste.
Is it really just because of the mech-lolis?
I hate the "low budget 3D renders turned into sprites" look that Cave uses these days. It has its good and bad times though, I definitely like the bosses in DOJ, Ibara and ESPG2 for some examples. On the flip side, some of the bosses and enemies in Futari are some of the worst I've ever seen from Cave, and I always thought the player's sprites in Deathsmiles were pretty awful too. Some times the renders just do not translate to sprites well at all, they just come off as muddy, ugly, and undetailed.
I also much prefer when bosses actually have some bits to them, instead of just being one big mass. Cave has never been super big into this, but see Ibara, Dangun Feveron, DDP, or Batsugun as some good examples.
As far as DFK goes, I just think that in addition to the loli designs being terrible, the sprites also look pretty ugly. I just think it's a shame because pretty much everything about the rest of this game is pretty awesome.
I don't mind the voices of bosses 1 and 2, but the voices of Bosses 3 and 4 are both really horrible. Do Japanese shmupers have something for annoying voice overs in games or something? The constant squeeks in Pink Sweets and Muchi Pork were pretty bad too.
ReKleSS wrote:What does that voice say when the hyper is ready? It sounds like "yoi ha yoroshii desuka", but I can't make much sense of that.
There are Arcana Heart 2 cabs blasting nonsense behind me at Shibuya Kaikan, so I can't really tell, but it is something along those lines. Sounds like they took DDP's "Are you ready?" and just translated it.

They most likely can't hear them.

Will Cave's next gen arcade mobo hardware support stereo sound output this time around after DDP-FK PCB? It shouldn't be that hard to implement... ^_~
Some of the classic Konami arcade shmup titles like Lifeforce and A-Jax both have stereo output even they were released back in the mid-1980's...why can't Cave do this for their arcade shmup titles as well? Could it be that such stereo output would eat into their production costs per PCB? Something to seriously mull over...
It's probably not as bad as it looks. There are those 'lasers' in the background that seem to be countered by you having your lasers on. So maybe it's more like DDP's hibachi attack + a little more (maybe a slower speed too?)
Doubtful. The second loop is painful. The bosses are especially tough (well, the 3 I've seen). The lasers make the hyper bullet canceling basically a moot point.

Looking at that last TLB pic, I can clearly see gaps and to be honest it doesn't look THAT hard (still impossible for all of us of course). Mushi's TLB was just a random mess of death and is WAY harder than this one if you ask me.
Of course I'm just guesing until I see this in motion.
