Yeah, fuck all that. Xevious is great. I've probably played the NES version about as much as I've played any other shooter.
I like how low simplistic and empty the world is, I like how your rank increases by missing ground targets, and I like the all the enemy types, particularly the black balls that explode into clusters of homing bullets.

I loved it too "back in the days" but after recently playing it again, I thought it was just... boring. (too slow a pace and nothing much happening to keep your attention).
I still like the game's music though.

Nothing wrong with Xevious, I enjoyed it back then, I enjoy it now, very leisurely paced till those black balls start bursting into multiple bullets. The the intensity picks up.
