Psyvariar 2 slowdown

Post by tommyb »

Does anyone else notice any severe slowdown during big explosions or boss battles in Psyvariar 2?

Yeah - it only ever seems to happen with me at the end of the levels when it never causes too much problem, looks damn tasty in my hugely erratic opinion, and lets you do a final bit of delicate grazing to really 'lvlup'...

Wow, this game just seems like it cannot be played right without a stick.

The boss exposition slowdown is intentional (programmed) for dramatic effect. Same with Ikaruga.

Noticed it the first time I played the game. :D Can't do anything about it, so just enjoy the game how it is (referring to the DC version). It's a beautiful shmup with or without the slowdown.

Yes, I do love the music in the game, too.

I'm just waiting to buy an arcade stick before I play it anymore, rolling and staying relatively in the same place is wayyy too difficult on the d-pad. But, this is a beautiful game, and probably one of my favorites as of now.

Yeah, it really takes away a lot from the Challenge.
I played the Dreamcast Version before.

Also, rolling with your stick just feels more satisfying and instinctive than simply pressing a button....

How do you roll?
Is it the push up then down quick while holding the direction?

Neat little effect.

So then, it has artificially induced slowdown by Success/skonec dev teams...

Same concept could be said with the original Taito G-Card versions of Psyvariar Medium Unit & Psyvariar Revision -- jaw-dropping mixture of fast & slow danmaku styles, especially watching an ace Psy-R player do his or her Buzz'ing is awesome! ^_~

I asked here once on Shmups.org if Success/skonec would be willing to do Psyvariar 3 game and the response was Psyvariar 2 was honed to perfection that any more improvements would be negible in the first place...they still could pull off some new tricks for a new Psyvariar game release.

It's nice to have the ability to listen to the cool BGM tunes featured on the Psy-R G-Card release -- very well done, especially if you listen to it on a pair of 100w speaker setup hooked up directly to the Taito G-Net motherboard itself -- can do so without breaking out a sweat! Try it sometime... ^_~

When you stop to ponder for a bit, there's only been three official Psyvariar games released to date...a fouth one should be due about now, right?

The rabid Psyvariar 2 fanboy inside me wants to agree with the "Psyvariar 2 was honed to perfection" part, but I have to admit Skonec REALLY should make a Psy3. Even if they can't add anything new to the old Psyvariar formula, they could just make another damn cool game with a kickass soundtrack and I'd be just as satisfied. :D

The xbox version takes away most of the slowdown, and it usually sells pretty cheap.

Quite odd, but clicking the 'more' link on the description of this Youtube video offers one of the best concise guides to all the different rolling types that can be mastered...
