I'll leave the thread open for now, in case some people really want to discuss R-Type Leo.

I'd appreciate it if you could stop posting gibberish, Shoe. You've been warned plenty of times already.

I always thought Leo was a side story to the main series, kind of like Phantasy Star III to that series.

I love Leo. Sure its the least r-typeish of the series but it's just full of greatness, the graphics are to die for just to begin with :)

I heard it supposedly took place alongside R-Type 1 story wise.

I agree about the graphics, they do seem IMO to be extremely well done.
I also just have this thing about the 1st stage's jazzy music score. I could listen to that for...well, a long time anyway.

It's a prequel to R-Type 1, that's why there's no force pod yet, just the bits

I have a weiner.

No wait, I mean something useful:

The force pod is gone because they said "maybe if we added more vulnerable areas we wouldn't have to make the rest of the game so cheap" then they said "why is the pod missing though?" then they said "because it's a prequel!"

Actually, the R-Type Official history put it in 2163 right after the "First Bydo Mission"... Any evidence that it takes place before it?

lol x2

I used to think Leo was alright, but it's basically another shooter where you crawl through stage by stage and try not to get hit and to hit the few enemies that appear (at least on normal difficuly).

I think that Kazuma Kujo should package Gallop and R-Type Leo in a shiny UMD. He owes us this, at the very least.

I think R-type leo gets really really good later on in the game. So you get great graphics and music, kill some bad guys, enjoy yourself, and then the game starts to get really good and you credit feed.

anyways, thanks for not pulling a bulletmagnet and closing this thread I guess

So like, I don't like how crappy the speed is without speedups and stuff (like, when you die and can't recover lol)

Not as bad as gradius but ya
Speedups seem to raise speed to double when maxed out iirc

I like it. In stark contrast to the regular R-Type games, Leo has a very uplifting, easygoing atmosphere and quirky leveldesign (apart from the boring first stage). Great shiny detailed graphics (as most Irem titles), smooth and funky soundtrack. Also pretty forgiving, not nearly as much of a memorizer as other R-Types. Quite a relaxing game. :)

*FICTIONAL*

Will Irem make an R-type History V.1 release for the 360 and the ps3?
r-type 01
r-type 02
r-type Leo

V.2 would ofcourse never be released.

Huh. Sounds like a "shmup" (also known as "shoot 'em up") to me. Could anyone clarify this?

Generic rant towards old-school style of sorts, if I understand it correctly.
