Then, why make a stupid thread like this and tell everyone they're pathetic because they like the series? This thread strikes me as an attempt to illuminate the stupid masses and act like a conceited little brat with superiority complex.

Relax. It's a forum, we discuss things here.

As shit as it is to quote such things, Forums, according to definition are:

a. A public meeting place for open discussion.
b. A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas.

If its my opinion that those who believe these iterations of the MGS series are foolish to believe they qualify as gaming 'masterpieces', thats my right, and I'm as entitled to make my voice known on the subject in the same fashion you've so crudely passed judgement on me.

Although you seem to think that I posted up a thread with the sole goal of belittling MGS 2/3 fans, you failed to notice I didn't even stick my nose in until you lot had had 2 pages worth to talk amongst yourselves.

Did you?

Just because it is a public forum where everyone is allowed to express their opinion doesn't mean people won't get offended, especially when it's pretty blatant.

If you don't like the PS2 games, go nuts. Making fun of people who do like them or don't mind them, that's pretty pointless. At least I cannot see a point to this beyond the annoying 'har! you like crap games' comments. Having an opinion is one thing, but parading around like it's fact aint cool. Which reminds me...
I'm glad you all enjoyed them. Masterpieces they aint.
Throw in an 'I think' somewhere in there and nobody is worse off. Although this kinda negates the whole idea of having a poll, don't it?
Hey! Your plan worked! You lured in all those with a thought or two about beyond MGS and now you've unleashed the true meaning of this thread! Huzzah...?

Look, just forget it. I would have put 'I think' into the sentence if it required me to do so. I 'didn't think' it did.

I'm not quite sure how the title of the thread eluded you lot - it wasn't like there was a hidden message in there about the possibility of me thinking they were great.

(points)

Hahaha... oh, I mean, boo-hoo.

Just forget it? Aww, muffin. You're the one who brought this up in the first place, so yeah, no worries. Since it's text rather than telepathy or verbal dialogue, it's only of courtesy you use "I think" or "I believe" since it's far from formal or fact. If you want to rag on people who are a little dismayed as to why you'd make this thread then some people (who, me? heheh) will rag on you to explain their thoughts. Maybe 'you can't handle the truth!'? 'The truth is out there...' after all.
They're only games man, only games.
Oh yeah, thanks for enlightening us all (or maybe just me, maybe even yourself as it helps to say it aloud... whoops) as to the fine line between reality and fantasy. Good thing I left my Stingers at home today rather than bring them to work with me.Image

You know... that actually felt good. Thanks Skykid, now I understand!

Ha ha! This is great. All of this because I think MGS 2 and 3 are stinkers! Look how angry you are!

Unecessary sympathy is a really mature form of sarcasm, which was pretty clever of you. How about instead of pointing fingers at me, telling everyone how disgusted you are by my attitude and my tone regarding Hideo's magnificent two, why don't you make an effort to tell me why the following is incorrect?
Overcomplicated controls
Limited player movement
Stilted, frustrating play
Ridiculously disruptive (and retardedly long) cutscenes
God-awful storylines that make no sense to humans
Axeing Snake for Raiden
Raiden
Boring and slow
Flawed ideas (no radar, crummy 1st person perspective.)
It would be much more productive to tackle the game rather than tackle my point of view.
By banging on about how my tone is hurting your feelings, you poor dear, not much is getting done.

Or is this when you again sidestep the point of the debate and we cue load's of quotes from my post, with witty immature attempts to illustrate an ignorance which isn't there?

EDIT: Already done, eh?

Holy shit! A breakthrough! Now you've got it. If only you did that all along...

Close, but no cigar. The only thing I'm angry with is how my post count has 'sky'rocketted the last few days. I'll have no more of that, thank you.

mascarpone will be the death of me :!:

somewhere on topic: mgs2 WAS shit. fair enough. but i think you should give 3 another whirl. where did you play it up to? i stopped on some flamethrower boss, but only cos it wasn't my copy of the game (or playstation for that matter).

and have you played twin snakes on the cube at all? shit hot

i quite like all the story nonsense and stuffs too. this and turn-based strategy are some of the few genres you can play whilst having a beer :)

I love Twin Snakes man, it's an awesome game - and the cutscenes are too much. Along with the original PS game, they're my favourite Metal Gears.

Yep, MGS2 was totally turd from the second the boat ended and the oil rig started.
I could see MGS3 was an improvement, but really not the improvement I was hoping for. I played for a few hours with some friends on day one of release, and eventually we concluded, much to our disappointment, it wasn't really very good and turned it off, and packed it up for a return.

i should probably point out that i played the series retrospectively, and in the wrong order to boot, so maybe that has some bearing, etc

if you were playing it on day one of release, maybe it's a case of you got caught in the hype? (i remember UK press going a bit mental - kojima's last metal gear!!! etc) the same thing happened with me and the movie Big Momma's House 3 :x

if you had put in an option like "2 was crap, but 3 was pretty decent actually" it would probably be the option that got the most votes. but now everyone will just vote masterpiece to spite you :P

edit: wait, why the fuck am i talking to an ikaruga-hatin' heathen...!?!?

Ah fuck it, they can vote whatever they want. It's not like anyone's done a very good job of explaining why they are masterpieces, mind you.

I could have put the option that 2 was crap and 3 was a little bit less crap, to be more accurate.

I think The Godfather is vastly overrated too, while we're at it.

Skykid, I'd like you to tell me how depth and complexity is a flaw in this case? Like I said, many games require you to become accustomed to the controls before you can be rewarded by them. You can just as easily argue that Alien Soldier is a bad game because the controls are distracting and a hindrance. Also, Alien Soldier has a pretty weak story

And how can you like MGS1 more when it suffers from so many of the same flaws? I'm going to take a wild guess and say you accidentally stood up, kneeled down, etc. many times while playing MGS1.

Personally, I'm not that excited about MGS4. It doesn't seem like you'll be able to throw a snake in a guard's face, or destroy their food supply and trick them with rotten/poisonous food, or any of the other awesome stuff that made Snake Eater so fun to play. If they can manage to give the player as many options to deal with enemies then I'll be interested.

Make sure you include a poll:

 Skykid should not be allowed to voice his opinions on games in a forum.

 Skykid should be chastised for not conforming to the majority vote.

 Skykid a crass, egotistical moron for challenging the majority.

 Is Skykid's sense of humour painfully mis-understood when it comes to people overly sensitive about videogames?

That should do it :D

Hello, I'm Hideo Kojima and I'd like to tell you why you should feel secure about being a fan of my intellectual works. If you're like most casual current-gen gamers, your only knowledge on many topics was garnered through playing my games. For example:

- Genetics and eugenics: Blond hair genes are dominant over brown because of the increased Sephy Angst Factor (it's a technical term, look it up)
- Government conspiracies: The more people they involve, the easier they are to cover up!
- Security measures: Easily defeated by being held, likely to be swallowed by rodents
- Gay vampires: No longer strictly bottoms!

And now, a forecast: Drizzle of intellectual flatulence with a front of Ape Escape moving in low from the east.

I don't care for the main game-- too cinematic and silly. But I do love the arcade-style mini-missions that were available on the XBox version of MGS 2. Did MGS 3 have anything like those?

While we're on the subject, can anybody find these classic Kojima moments for me:

Giving a "weather forecast" of the game's he's about to make (I KNOW he did this; just can't find it due to the blogosphere and random comment machine burying actual content) and also his selection by - I think Times Magazine? - as the most influential person of the year

Here's one, although its not a Hideo-ism that exists in the real world. Although for Hideo, this probably IS real world.
I'll never forget that part in MGS2 when, in the middle of a search and diffusal mission for a series of bombs on serious realtime countdowns, Raiden stops to have a long, ten minute reminiscence with the bird on the comms link about when they spent the day in the park together and laughed with a bunch of schoolkids before going to see a Godzilla movie or something.
