Celery...The Devil's Veggie?

How can you hate celery? It doesn't taste like anything.

For some reason I always found it to have a slightly "vaporous" taste to it...whenever I'd bite into it it would feel like someone put a thin coat of Vap-O-Rub on my tongue. On the other hand, I tend to not mind a lot of other oft-disliked vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes, etc., though I do hate Brussels sprouts), but celery I've never liked.

I know what you mean. A lot of people have said that celery makes their tongue feel numb. I sometimes wonder if that is a pesticide effect. I started buying organic celery from the local food co-op and that numb feeling was gone and the celery was more flavorful.

Most vegetables at a big grocery store taste like crunchy water to me, but the local and organic stuff is quite flavorful. When you see a bunch of farmers in a parking lot selling fresh veggies, try them out.

I dislike cucumber.

This is really the first time I ever saw someone calling tomatoes "oft-disliked".

Sure there's at least someone out there not liking them, but in my experience it's most often liked a lot.

(then again 2 people in the same thread dissing cucumbers is an odd experience as well)

Maybe I just haven't taken a big enough poll, but a lot of people I know don't like tomatoes, but like ketchup (I'm their opposite on both counts...not only do I like tomatoes, but have little taste for ketchup, even on burgers and fries).
