Celery...The Devil's Veggie?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

I'm just curious about people's opinions on celery. I have a hunch that many people hate it myself included. I've gone on a diet recently which I eat it a bit and I'm loathing life.

So do you really like celery plain?

EDIT Crap the last choice was ignored. Can a MOD fix it please?

The leafy bits are nice.

Wash it good.

Also, celery seeds or celery salt are nice with many things, such as tomato/V8 juice.

I don't eat celery ever. An exception to my rule of eating green vegetables with spicy items.

Celery with peanut butter was one of those pop-healthy snacks that our moms made us eat when we were kids, and we always felt a little cheated somehow even though it wasn't terrible.

Somehow, I wouldn't mind having one now....

Yes, nostalgia always gets me.

Celery isn't too great, but I can eat it, if I have to.

What I find truly digusting are cucumbers though!

Celery is nice even though cucumber is the best.

How can you hate celery? It doesn't taste like anything. Celery and peanut butter is actually pretty good.

I know, it's like hating... rice or something. Celery is just so inoffensive.

I also find it weird that anyone would find cucumbers disgusting. Cucumbers are cool. Everyone knows that.

When I lived in Japan for a year I really started hating rice. It's just so damn bland. And then you have to eat it with EVERY meal. :|

I don't like it, but if I have to eat my veggies and they're the only ones around, I'll take a couple bites. What I really don't like is people eating the stuff and pretending it's fried chicken, "look at me I'm eating this awsome piece of fried celery chicken, hmm tasty." No assholes, if it was fried chicken you wouldn't be eating it so slowly.

For some reason I always found it to have a slightly "vaporous" taste to it...whenever I'd bite into it it would feel like someone put a thin coat of Vap-O-Rub on my tongue. On the other hand, I tend to not mind a lot of other oft-disliked vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes, etc., though I do hate Brussels sprouts), but celery I've never liked.

Not a fan in general, but celery with peanut butter + raisins -- the good old 'ants on a log'. How can anyone not feel nostalgic when that's mentioned?

Yes.

Enthusiasts of water and *flavor dilutions* irk me, too. I drink my diet coke and get laughed at.

When I was a wee small lad in elementary school, sometimes at lunchtime in the school's cafeteria, they'd serve the student's lunches with a single celery stalk slathered with some peanut butter. Same thing in high school as well...not a bad combination IMO. The taste of crispy and crunchy celery combined with peanut butter is an interesting pleasure in itself on one's tongue...relish it for old time's sake. ^_~

Some celery bite-sized stalks dipped in some Ranch dressing is good too... ^_~

celery fiber all over the place how i bite chunks off

Anyways it's good by itself, but disgusting if you slice it up and stick it into salad or soup.

I love celery. It's got a nice crunchiness and a slightly bitter but not unpleasant aftertaste. Actually I like vegetables in general... it's usually fruits I hate. I don't like slimy / pulpy textures.

I never thought of celery as being affiliated with the devil, in any case.

Apparently, there are some folks who just think that...

Anyways, all that extra celery goodness moving along inside the digestive system is good for one's health... ^_~

^Exactly. What's the devil going to accomplish with celery, keeping everyone nice and regular?

There must be a vegetable out there with terrible effects on one's health. Are avocados bad for you? I love those, but they seem a bit too good to be true somehow. That's the kind of vegetable I'd associate with the father of lies / prince of darkness, etc.

I think maybehaps it is the stringy stringlings inside that I don't quite like. I ate about half a package (5 or so stalks) in one sitting lastnight. You know it wasn't too terrible after the second one or so. But as said before celery is horrible when my first veggie diet had alot of those baaaaaaaaaby carrots in them. The little sweetlings.

It's just a baaaby

Yeah, the only things I don't like about celery:

-strings to get between one's teeth
-when celery is dried out, eating stalks is a chore (and also not so tasty as usual)

Did some serious dieting last year, and one thing I do know is that you keep yourself more motivated by only eating stuff you enjoy.
And I mean low-call. stuff here of course.
Just get some book or visit a website and look at callory values, seek out things which have low values which you actually kinda like (trust me there is A WHOLE lot of thinks you never knew were low-call. and you still enjoy).
Make a big a list as possible and try to vary on you eating habits by going through that list.
Make sure you have 1 day in the week when you can eat everything you fancy (reasonable ammounts of course).
Also get vitamin pills to make sure you do get all the vitamins despite the diet of your choice.
Trust me it works (and I've lost a WHOLE lotta weight that way)

In short: if you don't like celery... then don't eat it.

For the record I dislike most vegetables! And that includes celery here.

Why not exercise and skip the celery?
And who eats 5 stalks in one sitting???

Except that in this case the celery could be considered the "dressing" for the (if it's what I think you meant) delicious cream cheese.

Dressing is supposed to make foods that suck edible. So no.

By your definition of "dressing" you are right.
I have a different definition I suppose.

I just use it as someting used to "dress"the other, whether making it more tastefull is another thing.
I mean I like my mayonaisse (insert ketchup if American) a lot,
but eating just that isn't as much fullfilling as eating it with some (less fluid) food. That solid food addition in this case can be considered "dressing".
