Sony KV-25XBR tv

Post by kemical »

scored one of these this morning along with a stand for it, it's an old high-end 25" Sony TV with two detachable speakers. I haven't hooked it up yet because it is a beast and still sitting in the back of my car.. but I am eager to try it out.

Does anyone have one of these TV's for their shmup setup?
It has a 34-pin connector on the back which I'm assuming has RGB capabilities (it says rgb multi), and it looks like a floppy drive connector would fit perfectly onto the pins...!

I'll update this with more info once I manage to get it up the stairs without hurting myself.

Sony's XBR series TVs are as good as it gets for old skool gaming. I've been using one that's a bit bigger with 27" (KV-27XBR10) for some time now and can't think of a better set up.

You might want to ask a friend or a next-door neighbor to lend out a helping hand with that heavy Sony TV monitor... ^_~

There's nothing like a back going out of whack...that's bad news right there.

I have a similar monitor. A floppy drive connector will indeed fit the multi-rgb port, but unfortunately Sony used this port in different configurations on various monitors, so you may have to fiddle for a while to find the right pinout. I particularly like the way these units look, with their flat glass covers, and the picture quality is good even in composite.

well I got the monitor inside, but I'm having trouble getting my jamma boards to display on it, I have the pinout for this one, but no luck yet.. not sure if I need to have the Mode select connected to something or the RGB/Normal connected to +5

*edit**
Got it working, just had some wires in the wrong spots :oops:

Code: Select all

34-pin RGB connector:

  05 = Remote Ctl gnd	22 = no connection
  06 = Composite gnd	23 = Video (composite)
  07 = Audio ground	24 = Audio, Left
  08 = Red ground	25 = Red
  09 = Green ground	26 = Green
  10 = Blue ground	27 = Blue
  11 = Ground		28 = no connection
  12 = Blank ground	29 = Blanking
  13 = Hsync ground	30 = H-sync
  14 = no connection	31 = V-sync
  15 = Vsync ground	32 = no connection
  16 = Ground		33 = RGB vs Normal
