Homura, it has a really fun scoring system and good bullet patterns built around the reflect ability

I'm also curious why people think DP is so much better than DDP, I enjoy both games but I like DDP a LOT more, it just seems more polished and balanced and well-designed overall. DP feels like a prototype.

I agree with whoever said Trizeal. I think that game got trashed way too hard when it came out. Sure, the graphics suck, but IMO it's as fun as Raiden 3.

EASIER?? No way!
I 1cced DDP's first loop after like 20 credits and I'm stuck in Stage 5 of Donpachi afvter 30+. And that's for survival only, talking about chaining Donpachi is probably one of the hardest games ever. DDP chaining is easy as fuck.

Two games that I am really fond of are usually described as "bad" here.
I'd like to politely disagree and would even like to call 1 of them a hidden masterpiece (!) (quote me on that).
Chaos Field is the most underrated shmup I know by far (it's a fucking masterpiece!). Besides the amazing music and very nice-to-the-eyes graphics, the gameplay is challenging enough and the score system is comprehensible and engrosing. Milestone's best by far!

"Last Hope"is better than it's said to be too. Yes the original mode is too hard and not well balanced. DC modes and NGCD stuff even more, make the game well playable and enjoyable. If you like R-type/Blazing Star stuff, you'll love this too.[/b]

Whip Rush.

It's cartoonier-style visuals might turn some people off, but I've always liked it. The music is good, the weapon system is a bit different than your average shmup, and it even won an award from a game magazine back in the day (not that it means much really). It's a simple, enjoyable shmup to me.

Yeah, Trizeal is pretty good indeed.

Space Manbow is underrated, mainly because most people didn't play it, and most who did play it, probably played it for just 5 minutes and dimissed it as being just another old-school horizontal shmup.

The 1st review of it on shmups.com by Felix the Cat was hilariously bad. It praised the game, but it looked like he hadn't played the game past the 1st level. Most people probably just do that.

See Plasmo play in the flesh, and you'll see why he can 1CC DP in 20 credits.

Remarkable skills!

Difference between unknown and underrated. Plenty of solid picks in here, but Bio Metal is the definition of underrated. Hated mostly for a soundtrack that doesn't even belong to it.

Yeah thats true, its hard to say a game is underrated if nobody rates it at all.

I'd probably agree with this. I'd also say that the Vasaras and the latter Cottons deserve more love than they get...heck, I'll even go out on a limb and golf clap the Bokan shooters while I'm at it (beat THAT! :P).

Seeing XII Stag mentioned in this thread, I remembered that I actually had the game.
FIL wrote:XII Stag is ok but a little too dependent on the waggle and butt fire for scoring.
After my first quick play-through, I have to agree. XII Stag ain't so bad. The side fire and backfire are neat mechanics to increase the multiplier, but having to rely on them so much can get tiring. The overall game itself feels like it could use some more polish. As it stands though, it's a good title.

Also, I firmly believe that use of an arcade stick is advised (required, even) to get the most enjoyment from the game and from using the side attack.

Sengoku Ace, Dangun Feveron and Brave Blade I'd say are underrated.

And DDP is far better than DP.

EDIT:Actually, add Dimahoo into the underrated category also, it's brilliantly annoying.

Manbow's really good. Actually, I first tried it after I saw the card in Yu-Gi-Oh.

No kidding? It was the other way around for me (although I haven't seen either in person). Go Konami...too bad they rarely capitalize on the strength of their back catalogue, heh.

Huh, it seems to have relatively strong base attack for a L4 card.

*looks at the Blue Thunder T-45 card (Thunder Cross)*
For being cameos from Konami's lesser known shooters, this and Space Manbow have rather good ATK power.

I'd have to add in another vote for liking Donpachi more than DDP. I like both, but i just find myself coming back to DP more.

Also, R-type FINAL and Chaos Feild.

What's going on with all these 'Dot Eater' avatars. Thrid one I've spotted today. I thought it was only Kozo - but now you and somebody else have one!?
