This is one of the few games that I fully enjoy playing while getting my ass beat.PepsimanVsJoe wrote:They did a hell of a job with this port. Even the little bits of text at the beginning of each stage are translated.
God I suck at this game though.
Buy it folks and send a message to MS that some of us actually want more arcade ports.

So is Shigi's attack pattern reversed (like the one dude from Super-Play mentioned 3 months back)?
*edit*
I guess so:
Got the game, seems pretty much the same of what I tried in January.
I can confirm they screwed up Shigi. They swapped the colours of the initial position of the lasers and inverted the direction in which they rotate. The best strategy seems to start from the bottom left (which is now red), stay to the right of the laser as blue and release as red when you have no room left.
Unluckily, because Shigi initially moves to the left and the lasers rotate to the right, the laser trail is much more "vertical" and it's a lot more difficult to shoot it as blue without freaking die.
This whole thing is SO SO SO annoying.
I also noticed some changes in the delay with which the ships come in in 4-1 and possibly the timing is more strict to make enemies coming from the background locked by our homing laser...
Uhmmm

Franz The Stampede from Super-Play goes on to mention a wind-laser glitch in the preface of chapter 4:
They also screwed BIG time something with the homing lasers in 4-1. There are moment in which enemy ships cannot be targeted and will be blatantly missed by the lasers. Also the lasers might not distribute intelligently enough among the enemies, which means some of them will survive. I spent about an hour this afternoon and I couldn't find any decent and consistent strat. I do believe there is a serious problem as even looking at the replays of currently top players, they mostly fail at chaining 4-1 properly.
I'm officially disappointed with this version.
Seems the DC port is still king.

There might come up even more glitches when people get deeper into the game.
If Treasure couldn't handle something as simple as 4-1, how could they handle end of chapter 3 with multiplying enemies, or 4-2 where it is important to land the missiles properly to chain everything. Chaining those big guys in chapter 5 and getting 118 chain could be problematic, too.
We'll see.

I just wanted to point out an interesting feature that some may have missed.
When you unlock the Dot Eater achievement, you are informed about the Dot Eater Leaderboards. I checked the menu, and yup, there they are. I assume you're only eligible if you don't fire a shot. The leaderboards exist for all chapters and difficulties, just like the normal ones.

Make sure when starting a new game that "Chapter" is set to "All." If it isn't, you'll play the selected chapter, and then the game will end. This is by design.Kiken wrote:Also... the game will occasionally decide to just end your play-through after you've completed a chapter. The game wouldn't let me past chapter 1 for the first four plays... and MrMonkeyMan reports that the game was just ending for him after chapter 3.

I assure you, it was set to ALL. In fact, my brother and I switched it back and forth several times and got the same result. And again, MMM played through to chapter 3 and then the game decided it didn't want him to play chapter 4.yyr wrote:Make sure when starting a new game that "Chapter" is set to "All." Also, Franz captured quite an interesting chapter 4 glitch... the game decided not to load his player craft... so the stage just played itself.

The Hori EX Pad is better, but the sticks are really loose and it makes it harder to use them. So it's either a choice of playing with the official 360 controller, with great analogue sticks and a bad dpad, or playing with the Hori one, which has a better dpad and bad sticks.DefaultGen wrote:Assuming I don't have a cabinet to play my 360, is there any decent controller to pick up to play Ikaruga? I mean, the 360 D-Pad is really terrible stuffI dont play with a stick. Is the Hori pad any good?
I don't recommend it personally. There's also the xFPS available, but I haven't tried it out.

common ground controller - the newer gamestop full-size pads are common ground. The madcatz arcade stick (looks like a cancerous atari 2600 stick) is also common ground, and cheaper if you can still find it.
ikaruga - it's been a while since I turned on the DC, but didnt it have an option to play tate with yoko controls? I didn't notice this in the xbla version.

I haven't played in a while, but have loved this game for a long while. Of course I grabbed it yesterday (with the theme as well, I hate these microtransaction things, but like the theme). Anyways...I have had no problems with glitches yet, but my one concern...
The controller. When talking pin-point control, the d-pad sucks. If you have one, just try to ever so slightly click left. There's an awful lot of play before it actually depresses down. In level 3 where the large things that shoot lasers are moving, I'm trying to maneuver in between and, OH! Smashed into the wall. I love the game, love the display, etc, just don't like the controller AT ALL.

You should try to fix the dpad if you haven't already. Try this.slateman wrote:I haven't played in a while, but have loved this game for a long while. I'll make some notes of these giltches for review....
That Dpad fix isn't to great. The Dpad itself is still awful really because of the way it curves and the finger rests get smaller towards the outside. Its still easy to lose balance moving left and right quickly. The pivoting is also rather wrong on an official pad.

I didn't notice any audio glitches in chapter 4, but whilst fighting Tageri's first form, I found that dying will cancel the sound of the guns firing the sweeping bullet streams.bcass wrote:Just to add to the list of bugs, there is an audio-glitch in the music on stage 4. Anyone else notice it? Don't know if it happens every time.
Also, the StoneLike's final pattern is MUCH easier to dodge. The whole attack seems more spread out and all of the bullets are completely solid (there's no haze around the edges).
Maybe it's just me.. but the aspect ratio for the game in yoko seems closer to 3:5 (at least when set to 16:9).

I tend to agree. The HD visuals look smeary and just a tad out of focus. The 480p visuals of the DC rev through VGA look amazingly clean, sharp and refined.Afterbirth wrote:I think it somehow looks more detailed in SD then HD.
Theres some detail lost in HD because of the way SD displays a picture - it naturally anti aliases the picture and has better contrast so small details tend look better.
