Is there a more modern incarnation of the SEUCK?
simple question, is there a nice easy program for creating shmups of your own??
if it was possible on the C64 then im guessing the idea has been updated??

Erh, not really. I do have Tiny Phalanx but I don't recall ever hearing it was made with Dezaemon. It doesn't really look like it either. All the Dezaemon games I've seen have a certain similarity to them, or at least that's the impression I'm stuck with after going through all those fan-made games in the Dezaemon Kids! bonus disc...Turrican wrote:Dezaemon.

Dezaemon's been released for many a console (NES, SNES, N64, Saturn, PS1 with two versions...) but none have been translated to english. Officially anyway, there are few fan-translations around for at least the NES and SNES versions.
There is some PC software sorta similar to the RPG Maker, but for shmups...I tried it out once but must've deleted it shortly afterwards. Don't even recall the name, sorry.

My bad. I'm pretty sure that there was a commercially released shmup that had been created with Dezaemon... Snes' Biometal perhaps? Rob might know better.Ghegs wrote:Erh, not really. That seems to be it yeah, at least if we're to believe Destroy All Monster's page on the game. And why wouldn't we?Turrican wrote:My bad. I'm pretty sure that there was a commercially released shmup that had been created with Dezaemon... Snes' Biometal perhaps? Rob might know better.

The one made with a version of Dezaemon is actually the sequel, Biometal Gust (on the Saturn Dezaemon 2). Dezaemon on the SNES has Daioh Gale for its included game AFAIR.Turrican wrote: My bad. What about this one ?
http://www.shootemupcreator.com/
From the screens it looks very much like a commercialized version of what Gunnar posted quite some time ago...

Has anyone ever tried it ?

the dezaemon series' are very powerful. in particular the later incarnations on the Ps1 and saturn.
i have the saturn Dezaemon 2, and have been able to do some very interesting things with it. it should be noted though that the user interface is almost entirely text, so the non japanese literate (like me
) are in for an uphill battle).
dezaemon kids is the one to get, or so i hear. the menus are supposed to be much more intuitive, and the original printing of the game came with an extra disc of 100 fan made games from the previous Ps1 iteration, Daezemon +.
p.s.
anyone know if that video for "Retro Engine" (the psikyo like contest winner from Dezaemon +) is still being hosted anywhere? i think i got it from that japanese file trading site (can't even remember what it was called anymore
).
the key for me was to play the packaged games over and over, until i understood where different bullet patterns, effects, and so on happen. and then going into the editor and exploring the menus and seeing how everything was put together.
also, i suggest anyone looking to do anything with the saturn version, pick up the net connect mouse. it streamlines the process a great deal.
and sadly i think the cartridge port on my white saturn died. so i basically won't be able to continue the project i was working on (character based shooter).

to answer turrican's question in a more directed way. i have Dezaemon 2 (least friendly of the bunch), and even with japanese knowledge, production is still possible.Turrican wrote:I have a question about Dezaemon, while we're here. Who tried it? Who successfully completed one shmup on it? And, most important of all, how much user-friendly it is for a person who doesn't read Japanese?

Heh, all the screenshots from games look disappointing, while the GUI for the constructor itself doesn't look all that horrible. Still, there needs to be a demo for it.

I believe bleem is selling one in the trading forums as we speak. Nobody's nabbed it yet...Turrican wrote:@cap'n ahar: thanks for the very informative post. I'm positively curious about Dezaemon, I'll try to hunt one down.
Edit: Actually put the seller's name (bleem) in, rather than just leaving a blank!

Well, they're most definitely amateur games.captain ahar wrote:i need dezaemon kids real bad. that bonus disc would provide hours of amateur fun. not to mention the total compatibility of the game saves with the ps1 memory card. oh one can dream, but that shit seems real rare!
But yeah, if you can find it, it's pretty interesting stuff. Especially some of the extra stuff the game creators had submitted...detailed stories and concept artwork for their games, for example.
