Deathsmiles on GBA... is that possible!? We shall see.

Post by Adigun A. Polack »

Today, I just saw a video on YouTube which strongly suggests about somebody using a Nintendo DS to play perhaps a special arrangement of Cave’s 2007 arcade game Deathsmiles on GBA (you can tell by the advanced “Game Boy” opening screen there near the beginning of the vid). Here is the link for you right now:

Wow... amazing what a little classic technology can do these days, eh!? ;)

Your thoughts, please.

I'm getting mixed smiles about this...
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"
...

Looks to be a pretty funky doujin game to me. If it's freeware, i'll be flashing it asap.

Likewise. It's called 'Miku Smiles' from what my meagre brain can deduce. A Death Smiles pastiche with Hatsune Miku as the protagonist looks fairly cool anyway.

GBA has no decent shmups from what I can tell, so this would be nice to have.

Characters take up like 1/6 the screen - that can't be good.

I was thinking more of official GBA releases, but these are cool. I don't really consider bullet simulators to be shmups, cause let's face it .. you aren't actually shooting at anything :P

how so?

this is about as close as you will get to bullethell-on-the-go....

well....if you are looking for some bullet hell dodging these are gold.....

and vulkanon does have shooting....and bulletGBA has shooting levels but you dont control the shooting....

still awesome games IMO....

and the fact that bulletGBA has patterns from pretty much every bullethell type game to play its definitely worth a look

bulletGBA is almost as good as rRootage for PSP...especially when played on a PSP....its very akward on a DS and even worse on a GBA

Progear on the PSP. Not that these games should be played on the go...

The characters' detail is decent, but they could afford to be just a tad smaller. Aside from that- I liked it. The BGM is amazing.

If this goes public as a download, I'll be looking for a flashcart. Nintendo needs to understand that flashcarts are TRULY intended for homebrew stuff, not just "backups".
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Sounds like the "Guns don't kill people" argument.

I was going to start a new thread for this, but since the conversation has meandered to GBA shooters in general, perhaps this would be the best place for it. In the the french "history of the shooting game" documentary, we see someone making a homemade, hori danmaku game. Unfortunately, no information at all is given on it, including a name. Are there any savvy people on the forum that have managed to dredge up any info on this? Because it looks absolutely amazing, and I'm guessing if it has been released, it must surely be freeware given the format.

Also, 666 posts, lolololol.

How on earth do 'bullet hell' and 'on-the-go' make sense together?

IMO it's the best way to use one. You can switch directions much faster than using the tip of your thumb.

If you asked "where" instead of "how", I'd answer "Moscow subway at 7 in the morning". Small hitbox definitely helps there.

Steel Empire/Empire of Steel - I liked that on the GBA. Dated maybe, but great when it came out...
