Munich - has something to do with monks as it started as a monastery back in the day, iirc. Germany - not sure where that comes from, but all the names are basically tribes that used to hang out here. Teutons -> Deutsch, Allemanns -> Allemagne, etc. For places in Europe it's not uncommon to have really different sounding names in different languages. e.g. Ljubljana = Laibach, Milano = Mailand, Munich = Monaco di Bavieri (in Italian), etc.
