I'm wondering what else might go on this list?CIT wrote:I'd say Espgaluda on PS2 is actually better than the PCB, because the graphics glitches were cleaned up and it has a shitload of really good bonus stuff as well.

I imagine Senko no Ronde having having somewhat upgraded graphics on the x360...
Since I don't own it or have played either version I leave it to others to confirm or deny this assumption.
Non shmups wise... it's a well know fact that the Dreamcast Version of Soul Calibur owns the Arcade version...

Animated intro/ending, ability to use X/Y/Z/R for weapons, ability to play through all the stages instead of choosing between 2 and 4, if I'm not forgetting anything.professor ganson wrote:Battle Garegga and RSG? How so? I've played both RSGs. They were both great.

Off the top of my head, Silvergun's got Saturn mode, the 7-button control option, and a handful of unlockables (visible hitboxes, slo-mo for practice, etc.). Garegga's got a chunk of extra options and such (hidden characters unlocked, stage attack, multiple autofire settings, replays, etc.), with pretty much nothing lost from the arcade version (well, once you unlock wait mode, which is admittedly a stupid thing to have to unlock).professor ganson wrote:Battle Garegga and RSG? A few other possible "the port ever" suggestions off the top of my head might be Raiden DX (PS1), Game Tengoku (Saturn), Twinkle Star Sprites (Saturn), Cotton 2/Boomerang (Saturn), and DDP DOJ (PS2). Soukyugurentai Otokuyo had some nice extras as well, and Batsugun's inclusion of both Normal and Special modes was great, though the lack of slowdown might put some off.

I'm sad to see Souky and RSG because I thought I was upgrading when I bought the ST-V carts and sold the ports.
But if we're mainly talking about extras, I almost never take advantage of such things. As long as the main game is on a par I prefer being able to play the original.
I haven't yet spent the time to figure out the new control scheme for the arcade version of RSG. I always used the 7-button option on the port.

nope.... that was like selling off AES carts for MVS. worse in this case b/c there were quite a bit of extras thrown in the saturn ports. what made you do that out of curiosity? did you know STV is the same thing as the saturn, like the dc is to naomi?I'm sad to see Souky and RSG because I thought I was upgrading when I bought the ST-V carts and sold the ports. Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Well, after selling one of my Saturn consoles and the two games, it only cost me $100 to upgrade, and I still count it as an upgrade since I'll be able to play everything in RGB or S-video (once I get my monitor). As I said, I don't really care about extras because I never want to play anything but the arcade version.Strider77 wrote:nope.... that was like selling off AES carts for MVS. worse in this case b/c there were quite a bit of extras thrown in the saturn ports. what made you do that out of curiosity? did you know STV is the same thing as the saturn, like the dc is to naomi?I'm sad to see Souky and RSG because I thought I was upgrading when I bought the ST-V carts and sold the ports. Not that I ever played the arcade version, but the Ikaruga port on both DC and Gamecube feel really good. Virtually no slowdown (except the boss explosions, which I understand are intentional) and extra modes (practice, conquest, prototype).
Radiant Silvergun is also great on the saturn. Saturn Mode alone is a huge addition.

Yeah, that's true. Do you have to have the Saturn modified, I wonder, for RGB?Strider77 wrote:gotcha.... you can still get s-video and rgb out of the saturn to.I'll be able to play everything in RGB or S-video
It's interesting that the ST-V carts have a higher price than the Saturn cds. Presumably there are many more cds than carts out there.

you don't have to modify a saturn for rgb.... you just buy a rgb cord and plug it in. i use mine that way.

The 7-button control scheme is actually one of the things that make the Saturn version superior...professor ganson wrote:I'm sad to see Souky and RSG because I thought I was upgrading when I bought the ST-V carts and sold the ports. But if we're mainly talking about extras, I almost never take advantage of such things. I haven't yet spent the time to figure out the new control scheme for the arcade version of RSG. I always used the 7-button option on the port.
Being able to store your weapon levels and play Radiant Silvergun like a regular shooter (without color chaining) is a nice addition, too.
And yeah, Saturn does feature RGB. You just need an RGB cable. It may have been a bit premature to sell your Saturn games. Did you sell everything, including your Saturn?

No, I still have two beautiful, boxed white Japanese Saturns, which I intend to keep for now. But, really, I think of the Saturn as pretty pointless if you have an excellent MAME setup and the ability to play/purchase PCBs. So far I don't miss any of the Saturn games I've sold. Of course, I've kept my Battle Garegga and a few other favorites.Ceph wrote: Did you sell everything, including your Saturn?

Now that I've heard the reasons for saying that the RSG Saturn port is better, I feel better. I've had plenty of years of playing with stored weapon levels and other cheats and I'm not interested in that any longer. I just want to play the game as an arcade game. (Might sound like rationalizing, but it's the truth.)
