A remake of the original NES Bionic Commando to accompany the new one, targeted for release on XBLA, PSN and PC. This already looks like it's going to be a must have when it comes out.

Wow, that looks freaking awesome. And 2p coop? Badass. Where did you see the info about it being on the PC? I didn't see that anywhere on the news snippet.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
i am happy!

Oh, man. I wasn't expecting that to look so damn good! Sounds good too... I hope the whole NES soundtrack is handled the way that song was.

I was waiting to see something to complain about, but it never happened. I hope with all these moves at your disposal they plan on stepping up the action a lot more (a handful of enemies on screen?)

It's not the same because they put more care when it's a full priced game. Ultimate Ghost and Goblins looks better than this and it's on PSP. They'll probably cut corners in other areas too to make it fit the $10 bucks they'll be charging. They should have focused on this game instead of that new 3D one.sethsez wrote:They're the same as any other game except... you download them. Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins has the benefit of much more interesting art design. It's just the nature of the games... a cave filled with lava and a demon with a mouth in its stomache will always look better than steel girders and guys in uniforms. It's the same reason UG&G also looked better than the PSP Megaman remakes... there's just more to work with regarding the art design in the G&G series.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Ultimate Ghost and Goblins looks better than this and it's on PSP.
That said, this certainly looks better than UG&G technically, and the Team Fortress 2 style of minimalism it's got going for it suits it very well, keeping it from sinking too far into realism and giving it a nice stylish touch that not even the original had.

They should spent more time on the artwork then.
Edit: Maybe Capcom was more familiar with the PSP when making UGnG. UGnG rarely if ever slowdowns even when all sort of shit is happening on screen.

You're ignoring my point.
The "problem" isn't the artwork, it's the theme. The game has a very military/industrial sort of look to it, and your main enemies are just guys in jumpsuits. Outside of going completely Jet Set Radio with the whole thing, you're starting with a serious artistic handicap there because girders and uniforms just aren't nice looking things. And they're sticking with that look because it appears they want to be as faithful as possible to the original, while UG&G was a sequel (so not only does it have a theme that lends itself better to artwork, it also has more freedom in how everything could come together).
The last game of this style with a similar theme can think of is Contra:SS, and to me this looks much nicer (thanks, again, to the Team Fortress 2 approach they seem to be taking). That UG&G looks even better is immaterial... it's like comparing March of the Penguins to a documentary on car manufacturing. When you're pitting penguins in the tundra against factories in Detroit it's not much of a statement on the filmmakers when the former looks nicer than the latter.
I can't believe I'm arguing about the graphics, of all things, in Bionic Commando.

My initial reaction is to set fire to some NES systems in protest, as the NES version of Bionic Commando was an insult to the arcade original.
My second reacion is to set fire to some NES systems /and/ some NES BC carts, and add a healthy number of Ninja Gaiden carts to the mix - a similar crime which is still unpunished.

Haha, trailer is great! Also pretty cool is that it's coming to both networks.

I think you're ignoring reality here. The market for a 10$ downloadable game is way bigger than the one for a boxed 40$ remake a la UG&G (though this should be around 20$ by now...). Lots of impulse buying on those networks. It's a business after all.

UGnG was $30.
I'm just a guy who likes more fleshed out games. $10 is just too little cash to make anything impressive. I remember interviewers asking Koji Igarashi if he could release a 2D Castlevania and sell it online, and he said that he just wouldn't because at that price point he wouldn't be able to create what he had in mind. I'm not a shareholder of the company, so I care more about them doing a proper job than anything else.

Lucky Americans, it was originally around 40 Euros over here
I read exactly the same interview, think it was on 1up. I'm pretty sure Koji is a clever businessman but to be honest I was a little bit surprised by his answer. I really don't think that a PSP only game will sell more than a game that's released on both networks (XBL/PSN), especially because there shouldn't be any problem to release it on PSP first and then port it over to these both networks as DLC (see Lumines, Exit!).
Imo it's a pretty smart move to deliver the game to both networks, it probably allows them to go in with a much bigger budget than the usual XBL exclusive. Wouldn't be too surprised if this new 2D Bionic Commando gets slightly beefed up and ported over to the PSP in the near future.
So, my point is - 10$/€ doesn't necessarily mean that the title can't be a "more fleshed out game".

All of you are missing the point: artwork by Shinkiro.

the company behind both, Grin, are extremely huge fans of the original BC. it's about like Bethesda and Fallout, everyone on staff has played it. I honestly don't think they'll be slacking at all on it.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:They'll probably cut corners in other areas too to make it fit the $10 bucks they'll be charging.
