Am I the only one hoping for a new DoDonpachi, or by a slim chance a Dangun Feveron?
A new Esp.Ra.De or Guwange just wouldn't feel right without Joker JUN.

Why would upgrading to something technically superior be selling out? Look at Ikaruga.. Treasure clearly didn't sell out, and put out something better on the hardware than even it's creator did.

Oh no - I definitely don't think upgrading is selling out. That was the fact I was contesting. We'd all be stuck in the 8 bit era if upgrading tech was selling out...

since were all throwing dimes in teh well here, id like a new independent cyberpunk-industry themed shmup drawn by jun.. that would rock, he can even throw in some hos for the pillowsales if he wants!

I think the original "sellout" premise was more about a contraposition of high resolution as a means of reaching the artistic or technical goal to high resolution as the actual goal in itself. Compare: "we need better hardware to allow this level of detail (/for this feature to work well), the current resolution is not going to be enough" and "we are making it for a new hardware platform, meaning we'll have to fill a higher resolution, so provide us with bigger/more detailed art", etc.
Controversial point, at best, and not really worth discussing due to lack of first-hand evidence.

Do you understand now? It's an issue of semantics. The words they used have negative connotations -- when you say that someone is "milking" something, you are indirectly criticizing them. So Squeenix may be milking the FF franchise because all they do is make shitty games with it in order to make money, but Cave is not milking any of their franchises because they put a lot of thought and soul into each of their releases.

I am likewise not contesting your assertion, because I agree with you, only objecting to the word you are using to make it. Please say Square instead of Squeenix since that's really what you mean.

Makes you wonder how today would look had Cave went further down that road.

1: get some type of competitor/counterpart to put out games on the SH3 hardware.
2: Make a platformer.

This sounds proper good! One I'd buy for sure. Those fuck pillows still scare the shit out of me, but if it means more money pouring into cave then I'll put up with them too. Maybe they could do just one with some steam-punk zepplin on it.

It was only a week ago we (or some of us) were discussing Vic Viper's apparent exhaust pipe in a similar way. We should seek help.

EDIT: Back on topic, the idea of a film noir/ art deco shmup with a black and white movie feel hit me. Old cars with white walled tires and smokin' dames instead of Loli. Cave could make that amazing...
