Cave's Next

Post by GaijinPunch »

The AOU Show is just a month (or so) away, so I assume we'll hear an announcement about this soon. Until then, let's let the rumors fly. Possible sequels:

-Dodonpachi
-ESPRade
-Guwange

Seems that the latter two seem more likely, as Junya Inoue is working w/ Cave again.

As for that "hint" at the show, like a dumb ass, I didn't bother looking in the OST. Last page of the Guwange/ESPRade CD... low and behold:

Image

It's not Guwange. It is written in pretty oldish Japanese, and is hand written which stings a little more. From a once over, it seems like a love story. Thoughts?

I would love a Guwange sequel! Can you imagine how nice the graphics would look?

I think it will be a guwange sequel:

1) they released a guwange OST finally
2) they had a special guwange board at the festival
3) they released a guwange poster (again finally)
4) the artwork with the woman and the leaves blowing in the wind is very guwange-esque
5) esprade and donpachi already have had lots of sequels

There are lots of other reasons why I think it will be guwange, but I will stop at listing 5.

Dammit, I don't know how many more of these things I can roll into 'business expenses'. Definitely excited as usual!

They would've had to buy the rights from Atlus (for ESPRade, too), which is why it's taken so long.

In fact, all of those points can be said for ESPRade except for 2 (mysteriously missing?). ESPRade's never had a sequel. ESPGaluda is hardly even a psuedo sequel. They said they made it to appease fans of Rade, using characters instead of space ships. The similarities pretty much stop there.

I would much rather have a Guwange sequel (in story or simply atmopshere) over any other game any day though. Please don't like Manabu Namiki do the soundtrack. It would have one good song, and 8 gay ones, like every other one he does.

Very cool picture. As much as I love the DonPachi series I would really like to see a sequel to Guwange. Nothing beats it in terms of atmosphere, theme, and just overall presentation imo.

I'm not sure it won't be new stuff, even though i'd be more than happy having a Guwange or Rade sequel.

Death Smiles,MMP,Pink Sweets were coming out of nowhere, even if PS has its background taken in another known game.

I'd like to know how good/bad Cave's latest "new" titles did on the Arcade Jap market.Could be another hint to see if they will expand overture?

Btw,Cave is releasing like 3 titles a year;wonder,in a Arcade management point of view, like those in Japan,if it's that good business:releasing a new title that quick might be "killing" the ratio of the previous latest releases,in terms of customers expenses on them.

Still,i'm sure well known and busy Arcade places are good business,at least for the non dedicated cabs.

With a new Cave's release at approx 2000-2200$,one credit game being approx. at 0.9$,you make your cash quick.

And the staff is full of starving students whom they surely pay with subpar salaries...or pillow cases.

Game centers are no different than any business in Japan. They are famous for paying awful salaries and having raises and bonuses based on nothing but seniority.

I seem to remember reading a translated interview with Joker Jun on GP's site (from Gamest Graphics Vol. 1 maybe?) where he said if he made any profit from his manga he would like to invest in Cave and make a sequel to ESPRade...

I was going to ask if you'd checked the CD booklets, its usually the way :)

Guwange is my favourite shmup ever and whilst part of me thinks its so special it shouldn't be followed up, part of me thinks Cave are up to the job and it could look like sex on SH-3. If its a Guwange "style" game with a new gameplay style that could be just as interesting.

Needless to say I'd sell another kidney to get this on release.

I hope it's a rade sequal. It's my favourite cave game of all time & coming close to my favourite game.

Either way I'm excited at the prospect of a sequal to any of the 3, but it's a little sad as I remind myself of the sad Final Fantasy fans that always squeal for a FF7 sequal rather than a new IP from square.

I imagine that the cave madness won't be dying down anytime in 2008 if any of this speculation is right.

Even Cave sequels are new games. Square doesn't even put out sequels... they put out the same damn game.

Well, if the drawing in the OST does in fact refer to the next Cave title, we know that:

- it is not an Esprade sequel
- it is possibly a Guwange sequel
- it is possibly an entirely new game set in old Japan

No. 3 would definitely be the most exciting one to see! Here's hoping! :)

my moneys on a guwange-like game (not a sequel as such), looks like jun has definetly found his way back tho and it feels like a pretty safe bet that he will be doing the art for whatever it is.

as much as id love a Dodonpach 5 i dont really want a new one untill Cave make the leap to high-res.. the series is already so refined i think it would need something like that to feel fresh.
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Isn't Cave's next likely to be a Yagawa game, i.e. MMP2 or something? Or are y'all referring to the fall '08 Cave game?

It could be anything, but Ikeda hasn't put out a new one since Mushihime-sama Futari. I seriously doubt he's spent a year on Futari Black Label. He is the head hancho, but still.

It could be Inoue & Yagawa. I would hope not, but could be.

Look at her arm -- it's a skeleton arm. It's a Guwange sequel and she's the TLB.

Either that or it's a game about anorexic chicks. Could be a Muchi Muchi Pork sequel, only for those with a thin-girl fetish.

Guwange is one of the best looking games ever. And it'll never age unlike 3D.

Judging from the artwork, and the fact GP says the text is written in oldish Japanese, surely it must then be another feudal set game even if not a direct Guwange sequel.

And the skeleton arm tips off the fact there will be fantasy elements.

What's on the last page of the booklet of the MMP OST? They sold that one, too, at the Cave fest, didn't they?
