Since Dodonpachi-DOJ is already referred by Cave as "Donpachi Episode 4", then such a high-resolution Dodonpachi V PCB would make logical sense. One realizes that it would be Cave's first venture into high-res arcade shmups if they choose to do so with that format.sven666 wrote:my moneys on a guwange-like game (not a sequel as such), looks like jun has definetly found his way back tho and it feels like a pretty safe bet that he will be doing the art for whatever it is.
as much as id love a Dodonpach 5 i dont really want a new one untill Cave make the leap to high-res.. the series is already so refined i think it would need something like that to feel fresh.
And is the current Cave SH-3 type PCB capable of such high-res 640 x 480 mode? (Perhaps, another all-new arcade PCB motherboard built from the ground up to pull off that high-res mode...means spending more yen to do so = resulting in higher PCB kit price factor upon intial release on day one.)

Hi there
I'm the one who launched the subject on the french forum.
And my thought was that Inoue, in his interview, said that he would not have free time because he will start soon a new contract for a manga that will not be monthly (could be weekly ?).
Well if he has no time for a shmup, I beleive it would exclude games from his franchise, no ?
and the Kakjiku was clear...
...I know, it's too blatent.
But lately Cave did not go in complicate things. they go for the easy way, with simple marketing like lolicon gothloli and so on ...
that's why I wrote the next Cave could be DDP, but again it's just a rumor.

Is Cave's hw still PGM based? I don't know if it supports high-res, but the PGM2 is now a reality. Oriental Legend 2 runs on it.sven666 wrote:as much as id love a Dodonpach 5 i dont really want a new one untill Cave make the leap to high-res.. the series is already so refined i think it would need something like that to feel fresh.

Thanks for heads up of the PGM2 hardware not being high-res...
Cave would have to create a new PCB to output it's future arcade titles in high-res then... ^_~
Or they could just release their newest arcade game offering on the tried & true SH-3 hardware as usual..... ^_~

I would say that you are suffering from too much wishful thinking if you believe that CAVE will go "hi-res"! Just my opinion though....
Obviously, they are still going to continue to make shooters for their captive audience, but to move to high-res means a lot of new expenses to take on.
A new hardware system and all new software development tools and prioritary art applications are going to be required and will cost money that will have to be recovered on the very first effort, as that is their way! In fact, the very first batch sold... It will also require that operators in Japan will have to upgrade to med-to-hi-res cabinets.
Why should they change if it isn't yet neccesary? Apparently their core audience still loves their capabilities using their current SH-3 based hardware and it's beautiful "low-res" presentation.

For Dragon1952,
Your points are valid...I'm sure Cave has thought about making the switch to high-res games in their usual brain-storming group discussions about the next arcade game to develope but seems quite comfortable with the current SH-3 platform for the foreseeable future. Why not milk the SH-3 PCB setup for what it's worth?
It must of been quite an expensive ordeal to come up with the current SH-3 platform in the first place for Cave... ^_~

I don't like words like 'captive' and 'milk' used in this context. They imply a predatory attitude on the part of Cave, an implication that is highly unwarranted. Cave is not Squeenix, after all. They live and die by the quality of their games, and Lord knows quality has been through the roof since the beginning.

Obviously you do, because you've already made two posts about it. So let me help you with understanding what's going on here.shoe-sama wrote:Context usually includes the points the author's making too LOL
oh well who cares
I was not trying to contest Dragon1952's or PCE Fan's assertions. I was only objecting to the words they used to make them.
Do you understand now? It's an issue of semantics. The words they used have negative connotations -- when you say that someone is "milking" something, you are indirectly criticizing them. So Squeenix may be milking the FF franchise because all they do is make shitty games with it in order to make money, but Cave is not milking any of their franchises because they put a lot of thought and soul into each of their releases.
et cetera et cetera

Did I meet you at the show by any chance?I'm the one who launched the subject on the french forum.
It's also worth noting that Inoue did the poster design of DOJ, and nothing else. So, they could've very well hired him for a concept image only. Who knows. At least we have *something* to go on... unlike the very unlikely (eg: high res).
EDIT: What the hell happened to the Cave 2ch thread? You'd figure they'd be yapping about it there.
And, the last page of the MMP OST has MMP stuff.

No, I didn't went there, it would be nice to meet you one day.GaijinPunch wrote: Did I meet you at the show by any chance?
my last trip to Japan was last September and I missed the matsuri by 2 days.
it is not really old japanese writing, but more broken japanese vocal song thereGaijinPunch wrote: As for that "hint" at the show, like a dumb ass, I didn't bother looking in the OST. Last page of the Guwange/ESPRade CD... low and behold:
It's not Guwange. It is written in pretty oldish Japanese, and is hand written which stings a little more. From a once over, it seems like a love story. Thoughts?
(thanks to the help of my wife on this one...)
In fact, this is the third track(or stage) song of the OST.
Inoue wrote on his page that he wanted the singer of death smiles to work for the third stage vocal version of the Guwange CD.
He also wrote that Death Smiles is(was) his latest game work with Cave.

That's why I said oldish.it is not really old japanese writing,
Hang on... I'm lost. None of the tracks have words, in the least, and the words don't match any of the dialogue in the stage stories either. In fact, this is the third track(or stage) song of the OST.
