Thats another two Saturn exclusives gone.

Soon the PCE, Saturn and Dreamcast will be down to handful of exclusives.

Cool, G.Rev gets a game in a retro compilation. Now more people will get to play the goodness that is Metal Black

what a fantastic list, for once we don't get the same games that have been ported 16574654564 times before.
an arcade perfect dondokodon, in 2005 :D

And I'm not happy for Pulirula, actually. I bought it on its release day and never have had fun with it, even with that crazy atmosphere. I'm really surprised they are including Lightbringer there, thoe. It's a very special game which didn't become popular enough. I suppose it was a matter of bad timing - Capcom's Tower of Doom is from the same year.

Has it even been confirmed these will be 100% arcade perfect?

I thought the big Capcom love-in pack was a sure thing...?

Any tatable games on this list?

Really?

But I don't understand...why Darius Gaiden and Elevator Action Returns (got a recent GBA release, right)?
Not at all.

Are New Zealand Story and Chack N' Pop there?
As you can see, they're not there.

The other great shooter missing from this collection is Ryu Jin (AKA dragong god). Maybe for the next collection...
No chances. It's not a "true" Taito game.

Cool list.

Metal Black is a visual hoot. Awesome special effects and crazy designs. Boring gameplay though. The cat in the final boss fight is a riot(Doesn't somebody in here have that for an avatar?)

Does anyone feel the PS2 is soon becoming the leading console for Shmups?

Don't sell your Saturn versions just yet. All these games on this comp will be played in flickery high-res, and may not even be emulated properly. Not to mention the less responsive PS2 d-pad.

I'm surprised Recap, the resolution nazi himself, hasn't mentioned this yet.

Very nice list, nonetheless. I really need to get one of those swap discs for my PStwo.

Pretty good list, but no Arkanoid, Qix, or Volfied? Hopefully, those will be in the second collection.

No.

But it is nice to see that there will finally be some more competition in the Metal Black thread.

As for the talk of bad ports, you guys seem to forget there will also be an Xbox and PC version... both of which already emulate everything on that list fairly well (not Metal Black and Darius Gaiden though, but I'm sure they'll see to it that they're decent ports).

Which ones are those games' flaws in MAME? Darius Gaiden may get soon perfect emulation since Mish was working again on the driver, but I'm not sure if he's aware of the problems, while Metal Black got a driver reveision recently which supposedly fixed every alpha-blending-related bugs.

Dude, I'm all about PuLiRuLa. I played it w/ Gregbower, Jon and Spec, a while back and thought it was a riot. Definitely a reason to buy! :D

They very well could be perfect now then... last time I played them in MAME was over a year ago.

Well if you count all the PS1 games you can play on it too, then it already is the leading console in my opinion :P.. although my opinion is biased as I like Caves games :)

volfied was released on PS1 a few years ago already. As well as Arkanoid 2000 for that matter.

Note to self...

If Sylvalion works out well enough, I'll need to see if there are any PS2 trackballs out there. {sigh} But first, I need to get my PS2 working properly again. Plays PS1 all right (although G-Darius's music skipped...), refuses to play PS2 at all (I can understand why it might be scared of Shining Tears--constant music streaming, which is probably what caused the lubrication to die in the first place--but Tekken 5?)...

I suppose we should start trying to figure out what's for volume 2 (besides Operation: Wolf and Rainbow Islands, of course). Guesses/hopes? In my case...

Hopes:

--Cadash
--Gekirin Dan
--Darius
--Darius II
--Night Striker

Other guesses:

--Chase H.Q.
--Top Speed
--Jungle Hunt
--Zoo Keeper
--New Zealand Story
--Arkanoid II
--Qix

As to Flipull...I'm guessing that's Puzznic? If so, I hope Empire remembers, for the sake of the younger audience, to Do Something about the hentai.

Now that I think about it...any games you think don't deserve to be in the confirmed list?

Because those three were part of the Arcade Gears releases on SS, it would have been nice to see a complete trifecta.

SS Metal Black was not part of the Arcade Gears series. It was made and published by Ving.

What the hell are we thinking? Taito needs to includ G Darius. I mean, on the PS2 they could probably eliminate all the slowdown! That would be INCREDIBLE!

Methinks Epsxe would be a better option...it'd look better and you can maybe overclock it somehow.

I'm pretty dissapointed with this. I'd have preferred Taito to put all their earlier stuff out on Vol. 1. Oh well, here's to Vol. 2.
